My family of five really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Having facilities like bathrooms, outdoor showers, a shelter from the sun and a small store was very helpful. Nothing like looking back over your shoulder from the Atlantic side and seeing the beautiful lighthouse. Wonderful shells to find if you want. Will definitely return during our next visit to Harkers... More

Arrived here by ferry after visiting Shackleford, very clean beach. Raised boardwalks are throughout that allow each of access to different points of the island. Water was very clear and I didn't see any litter. I wasn't aware there was a fee (though small, 8$ at the time of my visit) to enter the lighthouse, and I believe it was... More

We took the Davis Shore Ferry Service to Cape Lookout for a two night stay in our truck camper and had such a wonderful experience! It was our first time to Cape Lookout and won't be our last. The fishing was not the greatest, but the weather was incredible, the shelling was spot on and our two toddlers - ages... More

great place to take the family for shelling, playing in the sand and surf- or stay on the bay side and no surf if babies are small

Took ferry over to visit lighthouse today. Had a very nice time. Did not get a chance to look for shells before it started to rain, but we enjoyed walking along the shore and taking photos of the lighthouse.

Did the combo of shackleford banks and the cape lookout...unfortunately the lighthouse was closed for some repairs but was still pretty. Once we got on shore we learned there was an optional ride to the southern most point of the island so we did that. It was an extra 10 per person but we'll worth it. It was about a... More

Our second trip camping here. We love it! Weather was perfect, and it was so peaceful. Be prepared for primitive camping. We will be back!

If you get here before Memorial Day, come early and enjoy some solitude on this incredible island. Take a day trip, camp, hike, fish, relax, shell. This is the way the beach was meant to be enjoyed. However you want in the peace and solitude you can only find on Cape Lookout in the offseason. Drive to Harkers Island and... More

Visited with my elderly mother in her wheelchair. There are boardwalks throughout the region that easily accommodated her chair. There's sand everywhere, but it didn't impinge on her movement. The local staff are very knowledgeable. We learned that the black diamonds front north/south, while the white diamonds front east/west!
