About
Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

Still Grand. Amazing architecture, expansive, imposing, impressive and much cleaner than when I commuted here in the 1970's. The food court has come back to life after a few tough years, and the selections are vast and diverse, just like NYC itself. Go down below and check out the new LIRR station that they almost secretly built!!! Very impressive and designed to be compatible with the old terminal. GCT is the heart of New York City, so even if you don't use the trains, it is well worth a visit.

Since I am from Long Island, I travel to NYC somewhat often on the LIRR. This was my first time traveling into Grand Central Station since it was added to the LIRR service. All I can say is, wow! Walking into the main concourse from the tracks is quite an experience. The cavernous, ornate ceilings and marble walls are breathtaking. It has become a NYC landmark for a reason: Grand Central is a masterpiece of architecture and design. Plenty of interesting quirks and details to see, like many ornately designed buildings of that era. Also lots of interesting places to eat in the dining concourse. If your in the area, it’s worth a look.

As a train station, it functions pretty well. The building is huge, so it doesn’t feel super crowded even during the bustle of rush hour. Signage is clear and very visible. I might add that if you are taking the LIRR from Grand Central, the tracks are in a separate wing of the station, which is a bit of a walk. Make sure to leave some extra time.

It's like a gothic cathedral, spacious with soaring ceiling. This soaring ceiling is painted like the night sky. So much gorgeous marble. What a beautiful way to enter the city. A good restaurant and a super market inside. And it works well as a train station. So happy that it was not torn down, thank you Jackie O.

I loved our visit to this icon. I knew about the whispering gallery but was wandering around enjoying all of the surroundings reminiscent of so many classic images, when I sneezed and realised we were in the right spot!

After a bit of play we then moved into the food area and then up into the main concourse. How anyone could not be loved by the grandeur of the structure and the ceiling is beyond me. One of my favourite experiences. Rightly in the top 10 of things to do.

The building design inside and out is impressive. The ceiling with its astrological symbols is beautiful. We checked out the Whispering Room along with many others. It's definitely worth a visit.

Recently, I was at Grand Central to take the new LIRR train location.
While waiting for my train, I stood
around and took in the sights.
The hustle and bustle is something to see.
Check out the food court and store options. I did stop by the MTA store on the lower level but was disappointed at how small the store is now.
Also, I went to the whisper dome to watch everyone doing the same thing, standing on opposite ends of the dome and whispering to find out if they could hear each other.
Finally, I went down below... very down below.. to catch my train home. The new LIRR terminal is amazing. Can't wait for some stores and shops to open down there.

Word of advice.. give yourself extra time from the street even to the LIRR tracks. Unlike Penn Station, the LIRR trians are NOT close to street level. You gotta go down several levels, then still walk a distance to get to your track.

If you think you can do a last-minute run to your train from street level, you WILL miss your train.
