Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York...

Grand Central Terminal is the most extraordinary public space in New York City. Opened to the public in 1913, this historic train terminal is a world-famous landmark in Midtown. Its rich history is a story of immense wealth and great engineering. Grand Central is one of the busiest train stations in the world, with approximately 750,000 visitors every day. It is the home of Metro-North Railroad, a subway station, iconic restaurants, shops, and the world's most alluring Apple Store. Some of the highlights to see along your tour of Grand Central include the opal-faced clock, valued at $20 million, above the Information Booth, the Largest Tiffany Glass Clock in the World below the 48-foot, 1500-ton Transportation statue overlooking 42nd Street at Park Avenue, and the mystifying acoustics of the Whispering Gallery in front of the Oyster Bar and Restaurant. Audio and guided tours are available for those with a passion for history. More information regarding tours and ways to plan your visit can be found on the Grand Central Terminal website.

Living in New York City for the past few years, there are a handful iconic tourist spots that have died. Grand Central Terminal is one of them that have survived, the heart of New York City. It's definitely how you would picture it from the movies, it's big and spacious with extremely high ceilings.

Wow and wow! This is the most fantastic train terminal I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot while I am frequently traveling. I just loved it. Spent almost a evening walking around those huge corridors and enjoying the space and the spirit in the heart of the most multicultural city in the world.

I go through Grand Centarl station about once a week. I even took an interesting tour. Grand Central is a beautiful building that wouldn't be there without many dedicated people including Jackie Kennedy who, worked hard to save it. You can shop and eat or just admire the building. I like Shake Shack And the Great Nordic Food Hall is terrific.... More

For snacks and quick good food it is great but a bit pricey. Perhaps to be expected in the middle of New York. The station itself is huge, yet done in beauty with its zodiac ceiling.

Grand central station is a beautiful reminder of traditional new York architecture and design, stepping into the station feels like stepping back in time (its also kind of like stepping into a scene in a harry potter movie). Grand central station is free to visit. For a small fee you can hire a self guided audio tour. Their are plenty... More

Can choose between a half hour or hour tour. Bring earphones so you don't have to hold all the time. One of the highlights was theGrand Central Market.

Grand Central Terminal is more than a train station. You can shop and grab a bite to eat while you are waiting. If you have a opportunity visit this would be a great place to take photo's during your stay in NYC

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
