    This place is a Vibe!
The best fun in the history of ever. We attended the season finale of amateur night at the Apollo and we loved every second. It was a great family friendly show. I’d go again and recommend anyone young or old to attend. You won’t regret it!

I think I never had so much fun in an audience before!
i ditched a broadway musical to see the amateur night, after I visited this place during a day tour and the guide recommended it. After hearing about this place and reading all the names in front of the entry it was an easy choice. And the best one I´ve made on this trip. I had the best night and the vibe was amazing from the beginning to the end. You immediatly get sucked into the energy of the audience find yourself laughing, screeming, shouting and maybe even booing. I had so much fun.

    Amateur Night
This was our first visit to Harlem and it was well worth the trip. The Apollo is a beautiful old venue and the atmosphere at Amateur Night was terrific. We were made so welcome and of course, the performers were (mostly) superb. Tickets were reasonably priced and the seats were comfortable. Front row recommended!

The energy of the crowd was great. The host encouraged audience participation. (jeering, booing, etc.) :)

Unfortunately when we arrived the theater was closed; however, it was still worth visiting this historical site.

There’s a small gift shop inside as well.

I’d recommend that you try to visit when the venue is open.

The Apollo Theatre Walk of Fame is very interesting. It was very nostalgic to see the names in the sidewalk.

The largely foreign crowd at Amateur Night is enthusiastic, ready for some good acts to cheer or boo. Everyone is game for a good time. On the night we went, those competing were talented, but no future Jackson 5 emerged among them (maybe there were 8 or 10 acts). The crowd was not very raucous; boos were not uttered during our show. The show's host has corny jokes to keep the show going. No need to buy the expensive seats because almost all of the acts are vocalists that can be heard from anywhere - the acoustics are very good. Because interaction is encouraged and the acts are short, Amateur Night is more lively than going to a theatrical play. Teenagers and children might enjoy it more. It is not comparable to the talent shows on TV now because it is a much simpler experience, although they do have some modern media activities. Will you see the next social media darling? Maybe....

I booked through Ticketmaster and paid a hefty price for front row seats but during the process we received two free tickets to a concert in Austin, Texas, instead of our requested tickets to amateur night at the Apollo, we had been scammed. This seems to happen quite regularly and it must be rectified. We ended up having to pay $70 extra to be seated in nose bleed territory at the back of the balcony.
Other than that the show itself was enjoyable and the usherette who helped us (two elderly people) to our seats was most helpful.

The Apollo has much to be proud of and it’s great that it still functions as a venue. Beautiful place with great history. But the amateur night is quite terrible and a real tourist trap. The audience was probably about 90 percent tourists. The host was very entertaining and was the highlight of the evening. The music was very amateurish :-) You would maybe be better off trying one of their other concerts.
