We have stayed in Greenwich Village a few times and really enjoy the VIBE here. There is a lot going on since New York University is centered here, so there are students, tourists and locals all mingling. It seems that they film a lot of movies in this area (the street in front of our hotel had a movie being... More

Sure it's full of tourists and day trippers from outside Manhattan, but for good reason since the Village is full of great restaurants and clubs, plus some good shopping. Very pedestrian-friendly and charming. Some streets are so peaceful and cute you forget you are in the US' biggest city.

It's a nice area of the city well worth a visit, we were lucky as the weather was excellent for the time of year. Stop and find a coffee shop and sit in the sunshine before getting back to the hustle and bustle

This is the place where rest after an entire day in the Big Apple walking and turning. You can sit down in one of the thousand benches, drinking a softdrinks (sellers are everywhere) and looking at some street artist performing for everyone. The place at sunrise is magic with its lights under the big Arch. After that, you can go... More

We found quiete streets and were able to cycle various roads without fear. Just great. It is a very leafy area almost old worldly in part and makes a pleasant change from the rush of the rest of the city. Very interesting and nice to trace the haunts of your music heroes.but you need to do the research beforehand.

Love this area of New York. To truly enjoy it you must get out and walk. Checkout the square, local architecture, NYU or the tons of restaurants and bars.

Having been born and bred in the Village I can say without fear of contradiction that it's still the heart (and soul) of Manhattan. Strolling its narrow, tree-lined streets you can almost feel that you're in Paris. The part of the Village west of 7th Ave South hasn't changed one iota from the time I grew up playing in Washington... More

The Village is fantastic. It combines New York's freedom (and curiosities) spirit with European elegance and class. You can find everything you need: Arty boutique shops, intellectual cafes and restaurants, sophisticated clubs, alternative activities, and that neighbourhood spirit and calmness the center of New York lacks.

A very eclectic area boarding NYU. Great place to people watch. Be prepared for some interesting observations.

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
