I was a customer at J&R from day #1, when my parents had their business just two blocks away on Fulton Street. However, that was a different era. The building where my parents worked was torn down this spring and J&R closed its doors in April 2014! J&R , a retailer , became a victim of its own success, its... More

Based on reviews here I walked up to the store only to find it closed for refurbishment! Don't waste your time!

I always look forward to prowling the jazz/blues/r&b/Latin floor at J&R whenever I go to New York. This time, however, the building was shuttered. CDs had been moved inside the main store, but the selection was primarily standard pop/rock. Another floor was closed for remodeling, and that--apparently--is where all the other genre will be. My impression is that the variety... More

In the absence of Tower records, we found J&R almost by accident. But what a great place. Obviously the stock isn't as extensive as Tower but they did seem have a great selection of CDs and vinyl. My brother-in-law ended up buying 9 CDs there, including a lot of old George Harrison solo stuff. They also had a reasonable selection... More

Be careful with buying cell phones here. They are one of the few places (maybe the only) place in New York to have a large selection unlocked phones but there is a reason for it. The phones they sell are second hand. They have been locked once before for a service provider and then unlocked and sold as unlocked phones.... More

After shopping here for several decades (since it's a veritable NY establishment) I am sad to say I will never step foot in J&R again. A few weeks ago I bought a toshiba satellite notebook computer and asked all the right questions. My sales assistant, Eutan Woodley, was a pleasant man who kept looking in his computer system for my... More

Sadly one of the few record/CD stores left in New York. Located on the top two floors of this electronics store. Good jazz CD selection and vinyl at reasonable prices as well as rock/pop.

This store is amazing and has a great reputation. Well worth a visit to try out the many doors that take you to CDs, video games, cameras, computers, household electronics etc. Pretty good in terms of value and the range of goods on display means that you won't be disappointed nor probably leave empty handed.
