The mansion is beautiful with amazing features. The German Austrian contemporary art perfectly pairs with the mansion. Definately go and enjoy the klimt features. Was a delight to catch the traveling exhibition with pieces from across the US. Sad the klimt are behind glass because the aweful lighting design creates glare (should be fixed). However, go in person and see... More

If you have interest in seeing the Klimt painting....you're not going to be disappointed. It's simply beautiful and any picture you see of it cannot do it justice. It's a beautifully situated gallery, and it was my favorite experience in the city.

Some amazing pieces of art. Unusual from other countries like the Italian woman her 80's having a first exhibit now in NYC. Lovely her use of materials.

This is a late review for my visit some months ago. I went to Neue Galerie after watching Woman in Gold movie. There was a long line to access the museum and while waiting the staff getting us in line said the museum was getting more visitors since the movie came out, so I think this place used to be... Went to visit the supposedly excellent cafe more than the gallery. Didn't even make it past the front door. Our half drunk, small coke bottles wouldn't be allowed in. I suspect there would have been other things in our bag they would have thumbed their noses at too. We'd been walking the past 2 hours in Central Park. Of course... More

Even if you don't like the art of Klimt, Schiele, and their contemporaries, the lovely building that the works are housed in is worth the visit. Also on display are wonderful features by Josef Hoffman and other great designers. The cafe is fantastic too.

We arrived at Neue Galerie shortly after it opened at 11am and there was already a line-up, but the line went relatively fast. It’s $20 a pop to get in, and it’s not a big museum, just a couple of floors, with the highlight of the exhibit being Klimt’s Woman in Gold painting. There were other Klimt paintings, but the... Went to the Neue last Saturday and had a wonderful time. This is an intimate, comfortable museum that is perfect for highlighting German and Austrian art. Seeing the Woman in Gold painting is the obvious highlight. Highly recommend to visit and easy to get to especially if you are visiting the Met Museum a few blocks away.

Of course, the highlights of the collection are the two famous Klimt portraits of Adele Bloch. There is also a beautiful collection of Egon Schiele. In April, there was a fabulous collection of Jawlensky. Beautiful silver and furniture from fin de siecle Vienna. Lovely and compact. Highly recommended.

The gallery itself is beautiful, but the key to the gallery is the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. It is amazing. It's history is fascinating, but photos and movies don't do it justice. It's a must see!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
