Just Great Jazz

Great perfomers in a small venue, not cheap, but reasonable for the caliber of the mucicians. If you enjoy jazz, an excellent choice

The venue is all windows that look out on the City with the jazz ensemble in front of the windows. You are seated in comfortable chairs teared facing the musicians. We had the opportunity to hear Ibrahim Maalouf play in the Appel Room. Marvelous.

If you like jazz and are in NYC this is a highlight not to be missed. We bought tix online for the season opening show. In the TimeWarner Centre, a short walk from the main Lincoln Centre complex, the purpose-built performing space has large lobbies and a number of stages. From the tiered seats in the Appel Room you look... More

We saw the Handful of Keys: a Century of Jazz Piano with the Wynton Marsalis orchestra and several top notch jazz pianists at Rose Hall. This is NOT the main Lincoln Center but across from Columbus Circle. A nice venue none the less and quality performers.

Last week we saw the Orchestra featuring their own and 5 guest pianists. two women and 3 men ranging from a 13 year old prodigy to 89 year old Dick Hyman. The program mixed piano with only rhythm, to full orchestra participation. It was a wonderful first night of their 29th year! Despite it's name the venue is in the... More

Thanks for your review! We're glad to hear you enjoyed Handful of Keys and the Tatum Greenblatt Quintet. Although we aren't able to present live music on the Atrium stage before every performance, we do try to showcase young artists in the Atrium whenever possible. We hope you can join us again soon! I was reminded, during our first visit to JALC, of the jazz festivals I have attended around the world, with their multiplicity of stages and simultaneity of performances. Wynton Marsalis oversees a permanent festival, one with beautiful and welcoming spaces, in the Time-Warner Center. The place just swings.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
