It's a really small venue so I felt especially privileged to see The Christian McBride Quartet there. It's a legendary venue, where you can hear legends. Not for the claustrophobic.

We visited New York for my birthday to experience world class jazz. It is America's only unique art form after all although you would sometimes wonder. Any jazz fan would have heard of The Village Vanguard and I have several live albums recorded there so it was a "must". We booked online well in advance to see Ethan Iverson with... More

As others have said, this is they way jazz is meant to be experienced. The setting is intimate and the servers have a good system of quickly getting both the drinks and the bill in a timely manner. A group of us saw the Christian McBride Quartet when in NYC for a conference. The music and energy were both inspiring.... More

If you like jazz, you can't miss a visit to the Village Vanguard while you're in New York City. The later shows (doors around 10 for a 10:30pm start) seem to sell out less. Best to call ahead and leave your names. Once inside, you have to buy at least one drink each. It's a small venue, and tables are... More

As with all the best jazz clubs this place is small and frequented by people who like good music. Reserved tickets online prior to event, Straight in off street, performance started on time. Monday nights are reserved for the resident Village Vanguard Orchestra and they are superb! Love the banter between songs. Very tight for space, everyone jammed in but... More

One thing I have found out over the last few years is that tourist do not see the great things and have the great experiences when they visit New York City. And, like walking over the Brooklyn Bridge, going to a jazz club, particularly the Village Vanguard is a particularly special experience. For NY it is very inexpensive. Get tickets... More

As a jazz fan, I enjoyed hearing a great group perform in a legendary setting to an appreciative audience. It is priced fairly.

Never going back again, never recommending it to anyone. Brutish, no thuggish, behavior at the door.

Staying in West Village

Neighbourhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighbourhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
