This small national park has lots to offer for outdoor enthusiasts. We enjoyed our visit, but wished we had allowed more time. The park is very scenic with rushing mountain streams, rocks, boulders, and woods that were blooming with redbuds and dogwoods. The receptionist at the visitors center was very helpful and friendly. The center had a small but stunning display... More

We did an impromptu day trip out here for some hiking. At first we thought that we might do Chimney Rock. Be warned it is pretty tough. We quit after five minutes and decided to do a nearby easy hike. Some of area is pretty rocky so beware. You probably want to wear hiking boots. I recommend going to the... More

Many visitors may come to hike the challenging paths straight up the mountain for gorgeous vista views but we came to just enjoy a gentle hike in the woods along the gorgeous streams and gentle brooks with mossy trails! :) There's a gorgeous stream that follows the road up the mountain as one enters the park to the visitor center... After finishing up at Cunningham Falls State Park, I gave Catoctin Man Park a call and Tim nicely answered the phone. He happily answered my questions and I was so happy to hear that this is a free entry NPS location (wish I had know before going to Cunningham). They have a nice visitors center there and Tim was there... More

This is a great place for day hiking or camping. They also have rustic cabin camps year round that are popular for weddings.

We hiked to Cunningham Falls, then Hog Rock and Wolf Rock at Catoctin Mountain. The trails are well maintained and well marked. The weather was misty and very foggy so we did not get to enjoy any of the vistas, but the whole hike had a ghostly aspect that made it very interesting. Well worht the hike regardless. The ranger... We hiked here on New Year's Day and really enjoyed it. We are older hikers and found all the hikes fairly easy. We started at the visitor center and did the 8 mile loop to Chimney Rock, Wolf Rock, Thurmont Vista, and Hog Rock. Nice trail, well maintained, with some nice but not spectacular views. Easy day trip from Annapolis,... More
