The museum has not yet had its grand opening, scheduled for the end of March, but it is well worth the trip. The building is beautiful and the exhibits are well done. The film was also entertaining and thought provoking. We have visited the battle site and the new museum is a welcome addition to Yorktown.

My wife and I were surprised by the breadth of the displays and the extremely high quality of their presentation. This included live half-hour educational presentations as well as a live fire cannon display and colonial era housing and gardening displays. We are very blessed to have this wonderful resource here in York County, VA.

This museum replaces one that had stood since 1976 and featured largely audio-visual exhibits. It's been transformed in a true museum with a wide-ranging selection of artifacts to illustrate the story of British empire and its end in America. The inside exhibits are good for a middle-school and above audience. While there is a lot of ground to cover and... More

We had three of our grandchildren with us as we toured this new museum. The museum itself is complete and has several movies to view as well as excellent displays. The outdoor facilities are not complete, but they did a superb job with small tours of what is ready now. Because it is not finished we had VERY few folks... More

This is a fantastic museum! There are interesting displays, full of information to read; holograms speaking to you like characters from the war; interactive displays and dozens of other ways of providing you with interesting information about the war. There are also a settlement and war camp outside that you can tour. These are the areas that were still under... More

The indoor museum recently opened. The outdoor portion of the museum is set to open in March 2016. What a Great find. The museum is set up to take you through the many stages leading up to and including the Revolutionary War. The impact on the colonists and the combined effort of many that allowed the colonists to defeat the... More

First time we have visited here since they built the new building and changed things around. They have been working on it for like three years. The Museum its self is ok but has just the standard stuff you see everywhere. The outdoor exhibits were not open the day we were there. May be real nice when it is done... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum! It was of particular interest to one person in our group because of the surrender of the British General Cornwallis! Not being a history buff, I did find the overall museum of value! The tour outside was exception, truly taking you back to the period. The tour guides stayed in costume and spoke in old... More

While the official opening is a couple months away, this museum is open for business, and FREE for Yorktown residents....Go! It is well-done, high-tech (think 4-dimensional), and chock full of information. You will come away with a greater understanding and appreciation for our history. The Gift Shop is really great, don't miss it.

Although the museum is open, the outdoor areas are still under construction. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. We visited on a cold day, so it was quite cold while going around the places outside that were open. The indoor portion of the museum is quite well done. It takes you through colonial times, from when... More
