We hiked in Golden Canyon, and connected with Gower Gulch to make the loop rather than doing an out-and-back. This adds an extra mile or so, and some elevation, but the views along Gower Gulch are wonderful. We spent about 2.5 hours on the trail, with many stops for pictures. Start early in the morning for the best conditions and... More

We hiked down from Zabriski Point. I highly recommend hiking down vs. going up unless you are an avid hiker. It is not an easy hike. Also, if you've got kids with you, know that there are some pretty scary points where the trail is very thin and you are literally inches from falling hundreds of feet, with a single... More

Set of from Backwater Road parking 1 mile from Furnace Creek Inn. Easy start and good for kids. Left fork after 1 mile takes you to summit of Red Cathedral steep scree towards top is unsuitable for youngsters as the return is difficult and natrow with big drops to side. You better betchya . . There is a reason this is one of the most crowded trails in Death Valley . . It's because it's one of the best . . Do the full loop to "z point" . .get here 1/2 hour before sunrise. Yes it's in a canyon . .but the early morning light-once you get up a... More

Get out of your vehicle and hike up the canyon a ways. It's not too strenuous. But pay attention to the warnings about the heat. Go early or late when you can walk in the shadows. It's noticeably hotter in the canyon if you are walking in the sun and even on a reasonable day in late March, we felt... More

This is a moderate hike that can be accomplished in 3-4 hours depending on your speed and photo interests. Start at the Golden Canyon trailhead. This has you hike uphill when you are most fresh. The hike past the Manly Beacon is terrific and you may find yourself almost alone at this point. You get a restroom opportunity at Zabriskie... More

There is a sign at this Canyon not to go into it in the heat of the day. We were fortunate enough to be there at about 6pm when it was in the shade and it was beautiful. A must see place.

My wife and I have not been seeking long hikes lately, but we had a good time walking the first 1/2 mile of this hike and back. The views are very good and the going fairly easy. We would recommend this hike, your call if you want to return early like we did.

Thank Davigeta
