Ever since I saw the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind I've wanted to visit this site. I can now remove it from my Bucket List and I wasn't disappointed. Pay the $10 entry fee or use your National Park Pass, either way it's...More

Upon my arrival, I decided I wouldn't take the additional time to head past the visitor center since I could get some pretty good pictures from there and there was a wait to go up due to parking constraints. After contemplating my decision, I changed...More

The views of the Tower are just unbelieval. We hiked the Tower Trail and took pictures of each side. Even saw some climbers attempting the top. The is a must visit.

Detoured slightly to see this and were glad we did! Make time to walk the 1.3 mile base trail; the views are great. If you're lucky you may see eagles - we did. Parking can be a challenge.

Devils Tower is really fun to see. There is lots of Indian history related to it. Also, you can hike in the area. There is a nice 1.3mile hike around the base of it. This is fun to do and give one a good sense...More

I was awestruck to see this in person. Don't really know how to explain the deeply quieting feeling I got when I saw the tower. The rangers there are helpful and knowledgeable. We drove about 60 minutes out of our planned area to see this...More

This is one of those must see stops if you are on a road trip in the Black Hills. The tower is very impressive. The tower trail is also very scenic. Be sure to look for climbers.

In 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt Declared this the 1st National Monument. The Ranger’s tower talk was interesting. (Confirmed Close Encounters only filmed ~ 10 mins.) Enjoyed and needed the walk around the base after the drive from Cody. There were at least 6 climbers. Look...More

Background scenes for the movie were filmed here. Impressive rock formation that can be seen for miles before one gets there. Typical National Park fees apply. Worth the drive to get there.

There is a small parking lot at the Devils Tower Visitor's center (West side of Devils Tower) and it is adjacent to the trail head that circles the Tower. There were parking spaces in March when we were there, but open... More
