I've been a season subscriber to this theater for the last couple of years. You get the best ticket prices that way and it forces you to see shows you may not have considered before. Most of the shows we've seen have been very good and the theater is so small there really is no bad seat. My only complaint... More

We went here to see As You Like It on 3/26/16 and I'd read a lot of reviews about how there are no bad seats, how unique the theater is, and how it's a bummer to have to take stairs to get into the theater. There are very few seats, which is great because you really get to see every... More

Lantern Theater Company puts on wonderful plays every season. I've attended for 2 years and am happy with them each time. They are located in the back of St. Stephen's Church. The theater space is very small and intimate, so there isn't a "bad" seat in the house. This season I found a FunSaver deal for season tickets. I am... More

We have been here for two plays. Both excellent! The acting and direction are superb. After have a subscription to another Philly theater company with rather mediocre performances, the Lantern is what theater should be. Theater should touch you. Lantern's productions and performances do just that!

We've been subscribers for three years now, and have found the experience to be uniformly excellent. The venue is small, but they manage to do a lot with it. The selection of plays is very good, with one Shakespeare every season, in the spring. We've found the casting and acting to be exceptionally good. There are a number of small... More

I've seen a few shows here and enjoyed every one, including some Shakespeare plays and Tom Stoppard's Arcadia. The setting is small and intimate, but the quality of work by the company is first rate. The staff are professional and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Be warned that it's an old building, well maintained, so nothing fancy. But... More

We were thrilled to find a performance of Stoppard's Arcadia when we got to Philadelphia on a recent business trip. My partner had seen it 3 times but I never had. The theater is very small (150 seats), therefore intimate, with great sight lines for all. The acting company were superb, as were the sets and lighting. All around, this... More

What I like best about the Lantern is the intimate setting & provocative, eclectic roster of plays, ranging from classics (Shakespeare, Shaw, etc.) to unknown - at least to me - & sometimes original works that stretch my mind & exhilarate my spirit. In this tiny loft theatre the audience is seated at three sides of & right up to... More

I absolutely love the Lantern Theater. I've been back several times and every experience has been immersive and captivating. It's a small theater but they use that to their advantage by seating the audience around the performance, almost like theater-in-the-round. You feel like you're a part of the story. As a student and lover of theater the Lantern is both... More

The Lantern is a tiny theater in the (almost) round. There's always seating on 3 sides and once in a while on the fourth as well - depends on the production. In a former elementary school, with only 2 stalls in the Ladies Room and unavoidable stairs (the only negatives). They produce 5 shows annually - Shakespeare, Fugard, Beckett, farce,... More
