Overview
More
Shane Confectionery is the oldest continuously-run confectionery in the United States, established in 1863. The Shane family took over the business in 1911, installing elaborately carved woodwork, stained glass and curved windows to showcase the chocolates and confections made onsite. Ninety-nine years later, in 2010, the business transitioned to the Berley Brothers who own the nearby Franklin Fountain and whom embarked on a meticulous restoration of the building and business. Candies continue to be made on-site, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients, seasonal specialties and old-fashioned quality. Beginning in 2014 a Chocolate Café was opened in the back of Shane Confectionery, illustrating the history of cacao in the form of luxurious drinking chocolates and brewed infusions.

We loved the ambiance of this place. It was a like time traveling back to the past. Everyone was dressed in the colonial era clothing. So much to choose from, some items were a bit on the pricey side but they had some amazing things...More

This shop is almost frozen in time. They have a great selection of chocolates and confections that are reasonably priced. We were there right before Easter so there were lots of choices for the season. In the back is a drink 'bar' where you can...More

The smell is amazing. Be sure to go all the way to the back to check out the coffee and chocolate drink area. The interior is old school, the chocolates look amazing. It's worth a visit just for the smell .

While most of the candies are made elsewhere, some of the most delicious chocolates are made in-house. In fact, one of the chocolates is the original "kiss" stolen by hershey. Believe me, these are MUCH better! Walking into the shop is a step back in...More

Delightful stop for the candies, hot chocolates or simply to view this historic shop in "Old Philadelphia. Hard to decide which is better, the confections or the shop itself. Don't overlook the tin ceilings and lovely old counters and display cases. " A candy shop...More

Reminded me of the old time candy shops. They even had the old, old cash registers. They had just about any chocolate you could imagine, including chocolate covered bacon, which actually tasted pretty good. Prices are not bad either. The place is kinda small, and...More

The second you walk into this little shop, you are overwhelmed with the smell of fresh chocolate. If I could bottle it, I'd be rich! So many choices and all of them look great!

We purchased buttercream eggs for Easter and they were very runny, not like others we have purchased from other Philadelphia chocolatiers. We were disappointed especially considering the price.

I read all the different pages for their website, which are extensive and detailed (in a good way), but nothing prepared me for stepping into Shane's on a blustery May afternoon. You want to freeze that moment in time, with the smells and the kind...More
