Alas, it was under renovation when I visited but the tour was still good and the guide did an outstanding job.

OK. Exterior being renovated so access limited to basement and 1st floor. The park ranger's info excellent. Interesting look at the life of the rich at the end of the gilded age. Definitely worth the stop as an added attraction to Hyde Park.

As impressive as when I was there 35 yrs ago. There is a MAJOR undertaking going on that is expected to be to be finished in October. A lot of the house you can not get to for they are taking out ALL the original...More

Massive remodeling, windows covered, dark inside, almost scary. Interesting in a Ghost Tour sort of way, otherwise wait until October when it's open again.

We live relatively locally so we did not tour the mansion in he advice of the park rangers. The construction limits much of the house. Otherwise, the grounds are beautiful and free and like all NPS sites there are free info guides about the grounds....More

We have been to Newport RI and this is a smaller home of one of the Vanderbuilts. It is currently under construction till November but we did get to see some of the first floor and the basement where the staff lived. Great tour, very...More

The mansion is undergoing renovations and what you can see changes week to week. We weren't able to go to the second floor. But our guide (a volunteer) was chatty and informative, and the tour lasted longer than advertised. Tickets are $10 for the mansion....More

Unfortunately, the mansion was being restored when we visited & is all boarded up with heavy equipment all over, so we just were able to enjoy the grounds. Its free to drive around in the parklike grounds, very pretty view of the Hudson Valley.

Don't bother going inside at this time. Upper floors are closed and furniture covered with tarps. Nice view in back over the Hudson

The grounds are beautiful but don't tour the house. We had to wait a half hour to tour of the mansion ($10.00) which consisted of self tour of the rooms and an interesting talk about Frederick Vanderbilt, his wife Louise and their legacy. It was...More

We were part of a group so did not use our NP Senior Pass, but I believe the pass is good at every site in the NP program. Other than at Zion, we have been able to use the pass at every site.
The address listed is WRONG. That is for The Roosevelt mansion. Made my girlfriend and I stressed and late. Plus had to drive through Poughkeepsie which is not pleasant. You need to check basic facts. I didn't have reason to doubt the address as it was provided on a site about The Vanderbilt Mansion.

Did you miss those big blue signs that point direct you to "Vanderbilt estate" ? Big arrows? Sorry you were so stressed but you might try say, Google Maps?
Is it possible to do the FDR Museum, the ValKill, and the Vanderbilt Mansion tour in one day?

Yeah but would be tight. If you just visited the homes yes, but might be a stretch if you plan to go to FDR museum and the grounds of the properties.
