Lots has changes since we were here a long time ago. Now they have a visitors center which was the bachelor quarters. We had a great guide, I think it was ranger Mike. He had a great sense of humor, knew lots about the house...More

We've been to the Vanderbilt Mansion before, but this time we were with friends who had never been here before. The tour was interesting, but, based on prior visits, not nearly as comprehensive as it could have been. So much was pointed out earlier that...More

A must-see in the Hudson Valley; the tour of the house was very informative. The ranger did a great job. After seeing mansions in Newport though, it seems the ones overseen by the park service are a bit run-down. This one is having some work...More

We must have had the best guide ever! He was not only knowledgeable about the Vanderbilts, he knew about architecture and interior decoration and art and history and landscaping. Fantastic and beautiful bit of history! If you go here, go to the Roosevelt home and...More

Very interesting tour and a super tour guide! The house displays no taste whatsoever, the owners just send someone to buy old stuff in Europe (and I so hope he got ripped off and not took advantage of pure aristocrats). I can not believe how...More

We visited the Vanderbilt mansion (although apparently their nieces and newphews referred to it as a "cottage") and were really captured by the interior--rooms, decorations and relative simplicity of how the other half lives.

Beautiful Mansion and Grounds - Flower gardens were very impressive and I can only imagine how beautiful in a month or two. Ranger tour was very informative of both the Mansion and the time period. Hard to comprehend the wealth of the few of the...More

On a rainy May first, my partner and I visited the Vanderbilt Mansion. The tour starts at the guest-house where the park ranger tells you a bit about the mansion. Then you walk right over and into the front door. The mansion is impressive, the...More

The house and grounds are beautiful! The Rangers do a terrific job of helping you understand the time period when the home was built. The furnishings are so interesting!!

Beautiful view of the Hudson. The people who work here are very nice and knowledgeable. I would recommend going after the flowerbeds have bloomed. I went in March and could only imagine how impressive they must look in the spring. The gardens were obviously empty...More

We were part of a group so did not use our NP Senior Pass, but I believe the pass is good at every site in the NP program. Other than at Zion, we have been able to use the pass at every site.
The address listed is WRONG. That is for The Roosevelt mansion. Made my girlfriend and I stressed and late. Plus had to drive through Poughkeepsie which is not pleasant. You need to check basic facts. I didn't have reason to doubt the address as it was provided on a site about The Vanderbilt Mansion.

Did you miss those big blue signs that point direct you to "Vanderbilt estate" ? Big arrows? Sorry you were so stressed but you might try say, Google Maps?

Yeah but would be tight. If you just visited the homes yes, but might be a stretch if you plan to go to FDR museum and the grounds of the properties.
