The guides, Brian and Kairi, were awesome. The zips were fun and the afternoon was unforgetable. Zipping through the trees and walking through the woods was a great way to enjoy time with my kids.

An exciting but safe Zipline experience with seven different trips. After overcoming a bit of apprehension with the first step off, it was all fun. The staff was friendly, helpful and entertaining. One would hook your harness to the cable and the other would catch you at.the other end. If you came in too fast, there was a raking device which slowed you down as you approached the platform.

ALTERNATE HEADLINE: WOO-HOO--WHATTA RUSH!
If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, that's fun (and safe), check out Big Bear Ziplines in Hyde Park, NY. My group of 4 (family & friends) were joined by 2 other couples--a total of 8. We were expertly guided by our Zip Pilots -- Chris and Paul. No one in the group had "zipped" before and we were all a little bit nervous, but Chris' great sense of humor had us all laughing and feeling more comfortable in no time!

THE ZIP TOUR: The first 2 zips were a little scary--especially the launches and landings, but by the end of the 2-1/2 hour journey our group was feeling a bit cocky (lol)! In addition to eight ziplines, there were two "tarzan" ropes to slide down to the ground and a couple of steep fire truck ladders to climb up. The zip tour makes a large circuit through a secluded and beautiful wooded area. There was a small amount of hiking uphill after the first zip but after that we were mostly airborne, zipping from tree to tree. A couple of the people in my party were a little overweight, but except for some huffing & puffing up the hill and climbing the ladders, they had no problem with the rest of the course. Everyone had a cell phone and we were taking lots of photos & video throughout the trip. (P.S.--you can bring your own backpack to hold loose items or buy one from Big Bear before the trip).

SAFETY: The staff at Big Bear takes the safety of their guests very seriously. Before hitting the course, we were individually suited up in a harness, helmet and heavy-duty buckles Although the equipment was weighty, it was not uncomfortable. At no time did we have to buckle/unbuckle ourselves onto/off of the zip lines. The zip pilots handled all of that to make sure there were no errors or accidents -- I felt totally safe in their capable hands. Every tour goes out with 2 gides-- one zips ahead to aid with landings and de-buckling while the other stays at the launch point to make sure you're securely buckled to the zip line and your take off is successful. No one is allowed to launch until the previous "zipper" has landed and been securely buckled to a safe spot away from the landing platform. Chris and Paul were fantastic -- can't say enough about their professionalism and great personalities. It added a lot to the overall experience!

In speaking for myself and the other 3 in my party, we wholeheartedly recommend Big Bear Ziplines if you want a unique adventure! We're still talking about it over a month later. It's an experience I'll never forget and am so glad I went. I'll be turning 60 next month so if you're in decent physical shape, don't let age get in the way of trying this! Add it to your bucket list!!!

ADD'L TIP: We took advantage of a 2-for-the-price-of 1 offer from Amazon via a local promotional service they have that's similar to Groupon. After booking two of us via the Amazon promo, I received an email directly from Big Bear offering the same 2-for-1 deal which allowed two more people to come with us. Sign up on Amazon to receive daily emails of special promotions in your area. Big Bear might offer this BOGO again next season. (And no, I don't work for Amazon!!!)

Have always wanted to go ziplining and when I got the chance to go, I did not hesitate. Big Bear Ziplines was the perfect way to start! Extremely safe and the experienced pilots were as much fun as the sensation of zipping through the air amidst the colorful trees and fresh forest air. I will be back! A great part of a fun Hyde Park area weekend!
NB: length of visit depends on size of group zipping.

I'm a local in the Hudson Valley, so it's always nice to have an activity that appeases both visitors and the local community. A friend of mine acquired a groupon for a zipline tour and asked if I wanted to go. It exceeded my expectations in more ways than one! I was a little skeptical to go ziplining in Hyde Park, but this tour did not disappoint. There were about six different zip lines that the group would go on. The setting, especially in the fall, offered unique views of the Hudson Valley, with a bit of an adrenaline rush. I do not have a fear of heights, but the first zip line made me a little uneasy as I waited my turn. But, as each destination advances, you definitely feel more and more comfortable with it. The last zip line, by far the farthest, was so great. The guides (Chris and Paul) were wonderful. They kept the mood light, cracking jokes here and there. I was also impressed with the safety features Big Bear Ziplines offer. The guides took care of everything, so there was no second thought of whether the harness was hooked up correctly. They tell you when it's clear to go, and help you carefully maneuver around the trees as you wait for the rest of your group. Our group (six total) had quite an age range between participants, and both Chris and Paul never made anybody feel out of place or hurried. One of the older participants was a bit more nervous about things, but they both told her how great she was doing, and she became quite a pro by the end (even suggesting the night zip line in the future). Another treat was that it's located by Clancy's cafe (formerly Inside Scoop). Mention you did the Big Bear Zipline, and you get 10% off your bill. They offer food and ice cream. Great time. I wish I tried it sooner to let visitors know about it.

Big Bear Ziplines is, first and foremost, a very safe way to have fun. The three guides on my canopy tour -- Una, Tim, and Gunther -- proved themselves both fun to be around and careful in everything that they did, taking great care for the safety of everyone involved. I had never been ziplining before, and so I was slightly nervous at the beginning of the tour. I quickly found the group fun to be with, the experience relaxing and exciting at the same time, and I left wanting to come back again.

When you arrive to Big Bear Ziplines, you are greeted by the people in the front office. They have a small fridge with drinks for purchase, but there is also a small restaurant located directly in front of their office where you can purchase food, coffee or other drinks, and ice cream. They have a place where you can store small items that you could lose while flying through the air, or you can either carry your own backpack or purchase a small knapsack from them for a fee. They have a restroom in the office that you should make use of before going ziplining, unless you are comfortable doing your business in the woods. They do provide canteens of water at a couple of locations along the zipline route, but you could also carry a bottle of water in a backpack if you like. In general, eat before you go since there is no food along the way -- you are, in fact, ziplining through a forest -- and make sure you have everything you need for around 3 hours in woods, away from modern amenities.
