The Ritz is primarily known as a performance theater, and a quite excellent one. However, this review is about the Museum. The Museum's focus is the history of African-Americans, principally those who are from Jacksonville or the immediate area. The theater and museum are new construction built around the facade of an original "Colored" motion picture theater. The building is... More

I have attended two events at this theater. The first was a musical event featuring violinist. The audio and acoustics are good. The theater is clean and the seats are confortable. There is ample parking close to the building and an adjacent lot across the street(very short walk). The theater should promote its events better, because it is a nice... More

This is a must see for visitors and locals alike. So much of Jacksonville is missed by not checking out the smaller historic places. They have really done a wonderful job restoring this theatre to be both a performance venue and museum. Highly recommend!

We stopped by as an excursion from the conference. We had a private tour that was awesome. I would recommend stopping by.

You get surprisingly good musicians in an intimate setting such as Ulysses Owens and his band. The history exhibition we saw a few months ago was very well done. It is underapreciated.

I went to see a play at the theatre and didn't get to see the museum area but the architecture is beautiful. The venue also hosts music and film events. It's a short (20min) walk from downtown and easily accessible by public transportation.

This is a very nice venue. The lobby is nice and inviting, space to sit and mingle as you wait for the show to start. The museum is very nice, I especially liked how the lighting put an accent on the artwork on display. The concession area was stocked with great choices of beer, liquor and wine. The staff was... This theater from the '30 has been restored to its glory. I attended a concert by Euge Groove and there was not an empty seat in the house. Parking can be a bit difficult due to sellouts, but there are plenty of entertainment opportunities to be had at the Ritz. Valet parking is available, and there are some historic displays... More

This museum was probably my favorite place in Jacksonville. There was an exhibit of contemporary art, "Sensory Perception," which was very interesting (as with most contemporary art -- for me -- some strikes a chord and some doesn't) and a permanent exhibit on Florida/Jacksonville African American Heritage which was both enlightening and engaging. The museum is in a newish modern... More
