The hotel receptionist recommended we visit the column. A bit of a hike from the waterfront, but well worth the views and historic value.

Neat column, obelisk or whatever it is. Didn't climb up to the top, over the hill for that sort of upward travel on winding narrow stairway. $5 fee is good for a year doesn't do much good for a 20 minute visit though for out...More

Every visitor to the Astoria area has to visit the Astoria Column. They now charge a parking fee good for one year. We always take visitors there and it is breathtaking.

We were told on our trolley ride that the Astoria Column had raised their parking price up to $5. We did not feel that was a reasonable price since we didn't want to walk to the top anyway, so thus decided not to even go...More

Make sure you park at the trail head by the community college, and walk up to the column! And then make your way to the top of the column... Great little workout, with extraordinary 360 degree views from the top and the column.

Beautiful view of the mouth of the Columbia and surrounding area. Worth a visit. Quite a history about the monument and the restoration efforts

This is a beautiful tower with Astoria history painted in a spiral on the outside. Hike up the 164 steps for great views - we were lucky to be here on a sunny day, good views even with smoke from Oregon fires.

30 min is about right but if you're lucky and have a great day then you'd want a little longer. I say plan for an hour. If you're in that much of a hurry then don't go. I've been there twice BTW.
