We visited on a cold and overcast December day, and probably would have stayed longer and explored more had the weather been better. It would have been nice if we could have hiked one of the trails up the ridge, but it was cold and...More

Entry fee of $7 per person, no charge with an NPS Senior pass. We recommend viewing the video in the visitor center prior to touring the facility as it provided a good background on this interesting piece of American west history. Very little of the...More

This was an excellent place to visit. Well preserved fort and some of the buildings have been restored and furnished to show how they would have looked when occupied. I really liked the background information about people who had lived there. The hospital information showed...More

Since we were travelling off-season and all of the seasonal living history employees were now gone, the place was deserted except for a single Ranger. He was friendly and informative and we enjoyed speaking to him. The exhibits were pretty good in the visitor center,...More

A slightly out-of-the-way location fairly far from the interstate, but well worth the time, especially for western history buffs. This is probably the best preserved fort in all of the southwest, full of historical information, named after Jefferson Davis, before the Civil War. Give yourself...More

I am so glad we took the time to visit. It is a very extensive fort. The information center was great. So much to see. There is a great interactive section for kids. They can dress like a soldier, play in the tent and learn...More
