There is not whole a lot to do in Ft Davis, so i guess after the Observatory the park is the place to check out. There are some nice hiking trails and you can meet some wild life (apparently they've got LOTS of birds out...More

What can I say. I loved it! Having come from our huge metropolitan city, I greatly enjoyed the fresh air and the beautiful mountains. We were pleasantly surprised at how green it was there. We hiked the Indian Lodge trail, the most challenging one in...More

Hike or cycle through the mountains. Drive the scenic loop near dusk and you might see a nice size mule deer. Pack some snacks and hike...the trails we were on were moderate difficulty and took about 2-2.5 hrs. Very clean. Supposed to have golden eagles...More

Davis Mountains State Park goes the extra mile for their visitors. They have a great interpretive center suitable for young and old. The bird habit connects to the center allowing a good view of their feathered visitors. Plus there is a nicely labeled pollinator garden...More

ABSOLUTE AWESOMENESS! You'd think that it would be miserably hot in West Texas in the middle of summer, but the elevation is such that it didn't get much above 90 during the day and into the 60 & 70's at night. Plus, the summer is...More

When I first visited this park as a kid, I thought we were in Colorado. Yes, Texas has mountains, only around 8,000 feet, but beautiful mountains nonetheless. The best view of the Davis Mountains and the nearby McDonald Observatory is at the top of Skyline...More

We drove through because of knee surgery. Many places to camp and hike. I found they even had an adobe state hotel that included a restaurant. Surprise. Make reservations way in advance.

A day isn't enough time, period. A super short hike, maybe check out the fort, going to the observatory during the day would eliminate what it's made for. Going to Marfa would be very time consuming. I go to places like this... More

It's in Marfa. Actually outside of Marfa on Highway 90 near Valentine, Texas between Alpine and Marfa. You cannot miss it. Search for "Prada Marfa" for more details.
