Savannah's limestone and granite City Hall was built in 1904-1905 in a Renaissance Revival style and topped with a gold plated dome. It sits up on the bluff overlooking the Savannah River on the site of the old City Exchange. The gold dome is visible from the waterfront and is quite impressive glistening in the sun or lit up at night when walking down Bay Street.

Had a nice dinner with a co-worker along the water front and wanted to take a walk exploring a little after dinner.
Came to this beautiful gold domed Savannah City Hall and nice adjacent park with Revolutionary war cannons displayed.
What a lovely evening in Savannah

I feel I was misled reading some information that there would be things I could see inside. We literally walked several long blocks to go inside only to find ourselves parked on the other side of security with no where we could go in the building. Reception will give you a history pamphlet for read but there isn't enough value to stop here.

This gold-domed jewel dominates the skyline of the historic district. Most of the building is not accessible to the public, but the foyer and rotunda are . . . so step in and appreciate the art and craftsmanship of mosaic tiles and art glass. Don't be intimidated by the security check. The guards are friendly, it's just a metal detector, and they have a color brochure that nicely presents the history and architectural features of the building.

With its distinctive dome in tissue-paper-thin, 23-karat gold leaf, Savannah's City Hall (1906) is the first building constructed for exclusive use by the municipal government. Located on Bay Street and a block away from the Savannah River, this building is spectacular! Rising 70 ft in the air with a flagpole on top make City Hall especially photographic. No point going in but amazing photo ops, especially in the rising or setting sun. Definitely recommended!

We stumbled into the city hall by accident, and it was pure luck. Just beautiful and the architecture is lovely. It sits right on the other side of River Street. Stop by for a visit and take some pictures!

Although you are restricted to the first floor rotunda, a short visit here is worthwhile. Make sure you pick up a booklet to help you find the “treasures” within the building. And look up at the 4 story high stained glass dome.

We came to the city hall at the end of our stroll down the street. It's a great building with lots of character. Worth seeing!

It's hard to miss if you're in the downtown area. This is one classy building with a gleaming gold dome and a lot of history. It's at the end of Bull Street, which the tour operators love to point out (bull....politicians....get it???) so there are some nice vistas and picture opportunities, especially from Johnson Square, where it is nicely framed between the buildings. We didn't go inside but the outside is enough of a treat, so check it out

According to the history of the building, the City Hall was designed and built by local architect Hyman Wallace in 1901 and is a Renaissance Revival and was built to replace the old City Exchange building. Handsome looking building with gold dome can be seen from many angles of the city. It also has both elevators and historic steps going down the old River Street. Nice building for photographs with many parks and historic sites close by. Stop to take photos for your memory of Savannah while touring the historic city.

Yes, city hall is free and open to the public. Once you pass thru security, enjoy the architecture in the rotunda and the rotating art or history exhibit on display in the rotunda. Free tours are offered the first Tuesday of each month at 12 noon.
