Over the last fifteen years my wife and I have visited many NWRs, and Harris Neck is one of the best. A refuge of modest size, it contains a diversity of habitats and a good variety of animals and birds. The Wildlife Drive makes it...More

This is one of those places that I've heard the name of for years, but not many details. Finally was drawn here by a geocache, and I wish I had been here long before. There is history galore, accessible trails, gorgeous trees, peace, quiet and...More

A great location for water bird sighting (we saw wood stork; tricolored heron, black crowned night heron, great blue heron, anhinga, great egret in mating display, gallinule, hooded merganser and a red headed duck (1 male, 2 females). Plus alligators galore of all ages including...More

To go visit the park. The bird numbers were down somewhat this weekend from what we normally witness. The wood storks were in abundance and made a racket. We did not see any alligators this time. That is perhaps the first time I have not...More

Fun drive through a wildlife refuge that at one time was an airfield. Park your car and take in some of the short walks. We saw a eagle and lots of shore and other birds, so bring your camera or binoculars!

Go now to see gators (mating season) and nesting wood storks. Lots of trails to walk on and also auto trail. Best to go in morning before it gets too hot. Be sure to being bug spray and sunscreen.

We're not "birders" in the often competitive sense, but are dedicated enthusiasts, and this was one of the best excursions for bird watching we've had in quite a while. The driving tour through the preserve takes you on a big loop to the prime locations,...More

So bike ride. An easy bike ride. The wildlife 'show in spring will be amazing. Don't miss this for a day outing for exploration, fishing, etc.

No, it is free and you can pick up a map when you first turn in. There is a portable restroom there, but none in the park. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray.

My guess is that the wildlife is in its natural habitat and the refuge does not want anything to disturb them which may create an environment that could cause harm to the animals, you or your pet. When I was there I counted... More
