- ClassynoginBaton Rouge, Louisiana2 contributionsSavannah tripMy husband and I went to Savannah. We took a trolly tour around the city,it was beautiful. The history was so amazing and we had lunch at the Boar's Head for which was wonderful. There is shopping up-and-down the river. We stayed at the Staybridge hotel right across the street from the river. Our trip got cut short had to leave early. We are planning a trip to go back . If you like history you must visit Savannah GA.Visited November 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 December 2022
- Chris D4 contributionsAlways beautifulMy wife and I visited historic Savannah the week before Christmas. We have not been to Savannah in 12 years and it's still a beautiful and exciting place to be. I may be wrong, but it seemed that there were less Christmas decorations on the various houses in the historical district than in the previous years that we were there. Needless to say it's still the place to be!Visited December 2022Written 24 December 2022
- Simone Melancon40 contributionsDelightfully walkable area!Since this part of the city is laid out in a grid, it is easy to navigate for visitors. The regular inclusion of beautiful squares not only pleases the senses but slows car traffic. Truly a gem of a city for the pedestrian.Visited January 2023Written 15 January 2023
- JosephEber53 contributionsSavannah GA is a most relaxing, and Historic, visit.Savannah Historic district is the original planned city of Savannah GA still in almost the original layout. Many of the homes go back to the 1700 and early 1800s. The "Pirates' House" restaurant includes the oldest house in the city, built in 1735 as part of it's structure. Savannah Historic district is a good walking visit. It's a little over a mile, square, and almost all of it is easy to walk. "City Market" is a segment restricted to pedestrian, or bicycle. The city includes 22 squares that are each a small park, so there is always the opportunity to rest and relax near at hand. Many of the old homes are now museums. Take the Old Savannah trolley tour for an overview and then see the individual locations that get your interest.Visited January 2023Written 20 January 2023
- Michelle GToronto, Canada15 contributionsBest stop of our USA roadtrip so far!Old town Savannah was so cute! From the pictures I seen online and the things I read I still never expected something so nice to walk around. Cobblestone streets old buildings cute shops and the trees and plants are gorgeous! Even though we were there on a rainy day it was so nice!Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 February 2023
- Michael HNew Jersey88 contributionsGreat trip to SavannahWe had a wonderful trip to Savannah last May. Stayed for 6 days at the Marriott Savannah Riverfront, the hotel was very nice, staff was great and the hotel was located right on the river with most things in walking distance. Savannah was very nice, as we walked the historic district and along Jones Street, saw ALL the squares and Forsyth Park, went to the cemetery, went to city market and the Prohibition Museum. Went up and down River Street most days, seeing the stores, shops and bars and restaurants. Had lunch on the riverboat, the Georgia Queen, took a Ghost and Gravestone Tour, and hit just about every rooftop bar. Had the best peach cobbler at the Peach Cobbler Factory and had some great ice cream at Leopold's Ice Cream Shop. One the best parts of the trip was the breakfast and dinners. Ate at Two Cracked Eggs and had the biscuits and gravy, which were delicious. Had dinner at The Pirate's House, ordered the fried green tomatoes and the Honey Pecan fried chicken, both were amazing. We also ate dinner at Alligator Soul one night, wish we went another night because it was fantastic. I ordered the alligator mac and cheese as an appetizer, it was awesome. For dinner, I tried the antelope, absolutely delicious. Alligator Soul is a must if you visit Savannah! We will definitely be back to Savannah in the future, it's a wonderful city with so much to see and do, and full of history.Visited May 2022Written 12 February 2023
- Adventure781328Columbus, Ohio2 contributionsGreat choice for a weekend getawaySavannah is definitely a walking town. I prefer the historic district. I’d park on Bull Street near Forsyth Park & walk down Bull St to Bay St area (& the river) then back up Abercorn St. to get a good feel of the architecture, shops, restaurants, etc..Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 February 2023
- Mary Ann B3 contributionsTerrific Trolley ToursWe took the trolley tours several times. Our initial guide was a woman named Hannah and she was amazing! You learn so much history. They even have guest actors that board in period costumes and entertain you. You can use the trolleys for your transportation because you can get on ad off where ever you choose. I only wished they ran later than 4:30.Visited February 2023Written 28 February 2023
- dkgSimpsonville, South Carolina74 contributionsEasy walking through history!Beautiful Savannah and its gardens and different period and style of architecture! We started with a Gray Line tour then returned on foot. So much to see but it's very pleasant walking square to square and enter homes of interest for tours along the way.Visited March 2023Written 25 March 2023
- L PCarlisle, Pennsylvania69 contributionsBeautiful City with Small Town CharmIf you are looking for Southern charm and fabulous architecture, look no further than downtown Savannah. We were impressed by the seamless blend of old and modern, ease of walkability as well as the level of cleanliness of the city at large. There were some homeless people around, but compared to other cities we've visited, Savannah seems to have a better handle on this concern.Visited February 2023Written 14 April 2023

Savannah Historic District is phenomenal, it’s everything I’ve read and seen about it! There is only so many places one person can eat, but every place I was dining at had fantastic dishes. The folks in charge of the tours and running the stores were friendly and hospitable, I can’t wait to go again!

We are both retired social studies teachers and everywhere you look there’s history in the city. Not to mention wonderful restaurants and really neat places to shop.

The squares, along with moss covered tree streets, gas lanterns, elaborate porches, style, was amazing. Loved everything about it. The history along the way, tours of the homes, great eateries.

Went up and down Jones St. between MLK Blvd. and Broad St. This street is spectacular (and not full of tourists). The atmosphere and architecture epitomize upper class South.

Fascinating! Our docent was Jane, who I believe is the Director of the Museum. Jane’s love, respect, enthusiasm for Flannery brims as she explains Flannery’s early life, and how much of an influence her home played on the budding writer. Jane also explains the intricacies of Flannery’s early life, and how this aided and abetted her trajectory.

You know what is sad about this beautiful historic city? It has been taken over by the street people and/or homeless. There was trash everywhere, clothes, shoes and food. I have been to many cities and this was one of the worst

The historical district was one of the nicest I have seen. It is clear they are taking tremendous effort to restore and preserve this area. There is so much to see and all of it is within walking distance. We loved the historic homes, the lovely squares and the live oaks. Take a trolley tour when you first arrive to get an overview and a lay of the land.

Stayed at River St Inn downtown it was lovely! The staff especially Sarah and Freda. After a long semi stressful drive these girls brightened me right back up gave us great suggestions of where to go! The complimentary bottle of champagne was exactly what I needed! We went to Vic's on the waterfront for dinner It was delicious!

Highly recommend taking 1 of the two (2) historical trolley tours in order to take in all the sites.

Visit the historic houses/ museums and have a leisurely brunch at either 700 Drayton or the Olde Pink House. We especially loved the Mercer Williams house tour.
We are visiting historic Savannah 12/12 and 12/13. That is a Sunday and Monday. Will all stores and tours be open? What would you suggest we do?

I would think they would be as it’s holiday time. Best bet is to call the hotel concierge or the Chamber of Commerce and they can def help you out for sure if what would be available there.

THIS US AN HONEST QUESTION. In the presence of minority inspired anti-white activities, and in the presence of Savannah demographics, is it safe in 2021 for a Caucasian law abiding legal American citizen to visit the Historic District?

Based on your question, my response is that if you are looking for some anti-white experience in a majority white country you are likely to find it wherever you go.

Do you think it’s better to just wander the historical district on your own, or schedule a tour with a guide?

We used the OldTown Trolley, which is a hop on hop off. The driver gives you a lot of historical information. You are able to hop off anywhere you like and explore, then hop back on the trolley. They offer 15 different stops. Parking is free.

We will be flying in to Savannah and then driving to Hilton Head later in the day but would like to drive down to old town to walk around a while for some sightseeing. Where would be a good place for us to park to start our visit? Only planning 3-4 hours there.

There is a lot down by the river which is good. You can walk around the shops and see the sites down there.
We did it differently. We drove to an area we wanted to see and parked for an hour, using the meters.
USe google maps and you can also see where the Public Parking garages are.

Yes, it's at the Hyatt hotel but accessible from the outside. We used it to come back up from the river.

My wife and I never felt worried for our safety. We were all over the historic district and all times of the day and night. The worst we had to deal with was some of the panhandlers but none we came across were a problem.
