The SCAD Museum of Art was founded in 2002 as part of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The museum's collection of more than 4,500 pieces includes works of haute couture, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, prints and more. The SCAD Museum of Art is a teaching museum, serving Savannah College of Art and Design students and as well as members of the community and other visitors. A focal point is the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies, a multidisciplinary center for the study, understanding and appreciation of African American culture, art and literature. It is complemented by the André Leon Talley Gallery, named for the Vogue contributing editor and SCAD Board of Trustees member. The museum also features a 250-seat theater, a terrace and outdoor projection screen, a conservation studio, a museum café, as well as a 12-foot-long orientation touch table. An 86-foot tall steel and glass lantern welcomes visitors and elegantly redefines the Savannah city skyline.

So impressed with the quality and quantity of artwork by both students and professors. The surroundings are equally impressive. It doesn't take long to visit and is worth a stop.

We were surprised by the use of space within the museum . So much emptiness! The best exhibit was of music attuned to your shadow. The docents were very nice and helpful. In general we didn’t like the museum at all. I was disappointed

Sorry, but this means is Museum didn't really do anything for me. I am not sure why the ratings are so high. I have to guess that maybe only folks who are into art, enough to be happy with a fairly small selection of exhibits,...More

I was looking forward to seeing the museum's permanent collection of the Walter O. Evans Collection of African American Art, but when we arrived we were told it was not open to the public. That information is not obvious on the website. Needless to say...More

I have been to this museum twice. It is worthwhile and it is a nice break from the heat if you need a place to cool off!

I agree that this is a good art museum for families-not just galleries of paintings. That said, some twelve year old boys might not find this as interesting as other outdoor activities in the area.

I don't recall the price of admission. The museum is open to the public, no SCAD connection is necessary. They have student docents who approach you if you look bewildered and have questions, and they're a great resource... More
