The SCAD Museum of Art was founded in 2002 as part of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The museum's collection of more than 4,500 pieces includes works of haute couture, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, prints and more. The SCAD Museum of Art is a teaching museum, serving Savannah College of Art and Design students and as well as members of the community and other visitors. A focal point is the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies, a multidisciplinary center for the study, understanding and appreciation of African American culture, art and literature. It is complemented by the André Leon Talley Gallery, named for the Vogue contributing editor and SCAD Board of Trustees member. The museum also features a 250-seat theater, a terrace and outdoor projection screen, a conservation studio, a museum café, as well as a 12-foot-long orientation touch table. An 86-foot tall steel and glass lantern welcomes visitors and elegantly redefines the Savannah city skyline.

Beautiful building and very interesting exhibits. Some of the installations were incredible. Friendly and helpful staff and docents. Highly recommend if you like modern art, or would like to see something completely different. The Hank Willis exhibit is thought-provoking and haunting. Very powerful

This isn't a boring, stuffy museum. This museum is interesting and interactive. My husband is not usually a fan of activities like this, but he liked SCAD. There are 4 exhibit rooms each showcasing a different artist. My whole family loved it!

This museum is small but a gem in Savannah's art scene. A lot of different displays for its size. (My personal favorite collection was Lineages by Farmanfarmaian, so check it out while it's still here!) There was staff all over to help. There's also a...More

We stopped in here on our college visit to SCAD and were very pleasantly surprised at the curation of the exhibit. Wonderful gift shop as well - with a great variety of items and prices.

Great exhibits in a former cotton warehouse that has been converted into a museum. Far better than one would expect and worthy of a visit, allow an hour or so. That said, it seems as though the museum relies on temporary exhibits so bear that...More

I was wondering if the exhibits would be interesting to a 12 year old boy or should I send my hubby and son off while I do the museum ??

I agree that this is a good art museum for families-not just galleries of paintings. That said, some twelve year old boys might not find this as interesting as other outdoor activities in the area.
How much is admission to the museum. Also does the actual college give tours? I know they do for the prospective students but what about tourist?

I don't recall the price of admission. The museum is open to the public, no SCAD connection is necessary. They have student docents who approach you if you look bewildered and have questions, and they're a great resource... More
