Great little side trip to take in the local history. Take a walk along the canal and view the markers that explain the local natural habitat.

Mud is optional at the end of the trail, the kids and dog kept going through some of the marsh :) Lots of great scenery and an overall peaceful place to walk and explore as a family. Nice porch made by Eagle Scouts suitable for rest or a picnic :)

My wife and I drove to visit based on reviews here. We arrived about 3:30 pm on a Saturday, when it supposedly was open til 5. We particularly enjoy local history so were looking forward to the visit. The museum was closed with no indication of the times it was open posted anywhere. Other than a historical marker erected by... More

We were looking for a pretty, interesting place to hike and this turned up in a search. The museum is small but they show a 12 min film about the canal and surrounding area that is very informative. You can walk down the tow paths of the canal along the Ogeechee River. In places the boy scouts ( with donated... More

Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum and Nature Center has a small and modest visitor's center, with a small gift shop. When I went, there was a very enthusiastic and informative worker at the shop, who explained what there was to do and see at the site. If you are looking for a nice nature walk, this preserve has it. Along the trials... More

Please stop by...it's a few dollars (honor system) and so very peaceful. A butterfly garden and tons of trails and one of the highlights of my trip to Savannah. We were the only ones there and wandered for quite a while. Took some of my favorite photos. If you like nature, GO! Easy to get there. Needs a little love... More

Visit an old canal site and learn the role it played in Savannah History. Learn about its place in Sherman's attack on the city. The old brick locks are unique. Walk the trail beside the canal to reach the Ogeechee River. An easy walk with scenic beauty. See wildlife and maybe even a gator. Just 2 miles off I-95 at... More

Since we're camping at nearby Savannah Oaks, we decided to spend an afternoon hiking here. My husband and I paid our $5 family fee and with a trail map in hand took off on the Tow Path Trail. It was a cold day (highs in the 50s) so maybe that's why we didn't see any wildlife, but the foliage looked... More

There are wonderful trails through the swamps populated with wildlife and interesting history of the canals and the locks. We were fortunate enough to be able to talk with the gentleman who volunteers his days to restore the center and is so passionate about the whole project.

We arrived here at 10:00am and no one was around, however the door to the museum was open. After signing the book and dropping our admission fee into a lock box (this was on an honor system), we walked inside. The first thing we did was begin the video and watch a short film about the canal. Then we got... More
