This is a beautiful building which now houses priceless books of historical value to Georgia. My grandchildren were wanting to meet Dr. Stan Deaton who does historical spots for PBS that they see in school. The lady at the desk was helpful in making that happen for them. They not only got to meet him but had their photo taken... More

While visiting Savannah we arranged a trip to the historical society for our girls. They had a great time seeing artifacts and learning about some of Georgia's history.

If you don't know how the 'library' (NOT an archival depository for sure!) is set up don't expect any assistance; the staff are too busy talking to each other and doing whatever they do on their computers to help. IF you ASK for WHEN you perform due diligence and bring in the MS series you need pulled and MF rolls... More

I have visited many historical societies, archives and clubs...from the Filson Club in Louisville,KY to the Virginia Archives in Richmond and this place has the worst attitude. At first I thought it was just me but when standing out front an elderly lady commented, "...they have their good days and their bad days." I spoke with several friends about my... More

the wonderful smell of old books is the first thing you notice as you enter the building and then the magnificence of the architecture. A great place for research , just keep in mind these records are precious and one of a kind artifacts. Although we didn't find what we were searching for we nonetheless enjoyed our morning and the... This afternoon I wound up two days of researching my Savannah-area ancestors and couldn't be more complimentary about the staff and my entire experience at this wonderful facility. I had read some of the earlier (uncomplimentary) reviews and can't even imagine any negative input, based on my time there. The staff was pleasant, courteous, most helpful and the library is... This is an incredible state treasure and well worth the visit. I was doing research on early immigration to Georgia and was able to get a tremendous amount accomplished in a relatively short amount of time thanks to the knowledgeable staff. Since it's open on Saturdays twice a month, you can make a weekend trip there. The location is great... More

GHS might want to reconsider who they have working the front desk. She seemed very annoyed at our questions and asked us to step aside to assist other guests . Comical to see the next guest ask the same general questions about genealogy and the associate get equally annoyed. Luckily another young lady did help a bit but also let... More

Was very unhappy when trying to find archives on our family. The staff was very rude and treated you like a criminal with all the personal information they required. The long dark haired lady was very rude and would not even let me fill out the paper work. I would never damage their property, even though I was willing to... More

Library type setting. They have the best research material available for public use. Staff is very helpful . If you are into history or genealogy, this is a great place to look
