What a great surprise!!! You can actually see the wagon rut impressions from years ago along the Santa Fe Trail. As you see this site, you can picture what a central hub it was to the early settlers. The old hospital ruins were unique upon...More

Decided to visit on my way home from exploring the Northeast corner of NM during the holiday weekend. So glad I did! Spent about 2.5 hours here. The National Monument is about 8 miles off I-25. Along the way, there are pullouts to see Santa...More

Sam (13) and Dad visited here during our latest Father, Son trip. We picked lesser visited National Parks and Monuments, and found many are just off major Interstates especially in New Mexico. This is a great example. The Monument was the supply post for most...More

Ft. Union is about 8 miles off I-25 and is worth the trip - very desolate with clear views almost to the horizon - hard to sneak up on a fort with that kind of long view over great grasslands and minimal trees. Many of...More

Sad to admit that as a native of NM this was my first visit. The guided tour was informational and interesting. Such rich history about the US military, New Mexico and the Santa Fe Trail. Benches along the long tour/path are helpful. Be sure to...More

If you are interested in western history or the Santa Fe trail, this is a worthwhile stop. The staff was very knowledgeable, the bookstore selection was good and the setting is spectacular. I enjoyed it.

This was another interesting place to visit. We learned about the Fort and how it evolved through the years. Our tour of the ruins was cut a bit short by a thunderstorm, but that's just life. The rangers and volunteers were awesome and answered all...More

Only 8 miles off I-25, but what a trip back in time. For forty years, this Fort had a tremendous impact on the local economy, trade, safety of travelers and tradesmen, and also had an impact on a significant Civil War battle. Be sure to...More
