If you like old forts, and I do, this is a fun one. Not overly preserved but with lots to clamber over. Good view of the Potomac River which it was supposed to protect. A nice smallish well done visitor center and lots of park space to hike or let the kids run around. A solid historical see.

If you are a history enthusiast you will love this well-preserved fort. A long history with various phases of development are well documented on notices around the very large site. Enthusiastic volunteer staff are keen to fill-in gaps in the notice board storyline and to put a human perspective on the story. The views from the fort are fantastic -... More

My brother in law was visiting. Both he and my husband are military history buffs so when I was looking for things for us to do, this jumped out at me. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. We wandered around several areas of the fort (old and new). In the buildings and on top of the batteries.

I visited the park after a February snow storm to take my grandkids sleigh riding it very hilly near the Fort. The highlight is the Fort that overlooks the Potomac River just below Nation Harbor and the Wilson bridge. it overlooks Alexandria, Va , great scenic area and good picnic areas very spacious . Great If you are a history... More

Really enjoy this park. Lots of parking, wonderful trails that lead you to unexpected views and family friendly picnic areas. The historic fort is a must see and the view across the river from the top of the fort is a must see.

Fort Washington Park has for many years been considered a large open place where people can have there family and friends to gather for a day of fun, food, and fellowship. What a lot of people don't realize is that this place has a huge historical significance. It has one of the most significant sight lines for when the early... More

Located on the shores of the Potomac River, Fort Washington still stand tall. Nice rooms to visit, a small lighthouse and a beautiful park full of wandering deer. Nice place for a picnic. No food or drink available.

I love the park. Great attractions for kids, walking & bike riding path, picnic areas with toilets. The place is clean and well maintained. There's also fish available- the point off the lighthouse is 70' deep.

Fort Washington sites on the east bank of the Potomac River. From it one can see Mount Vernon. As is the case with a military installation turned over to civilians, there is ample park land on which are many things to see of historic value. Turning onto the park road, one sees nothing but grassy areas and woods. There are... More
