Just ten minutes from downtown Boston and nestled inside the 64 beautiful acres of Larz Anderson Park, the Museum is home to “America’s Oldest Car Collection”. These automobiles form the Museum’s permanent collection and are housed within the Carriage House, built in 1888 and designed by the city architect of Boston, Edmund M. Wheelwright, who was also responsible for several notable Boston structures like the Boston Public Library.

The Larz Anderson Auto Museum also offers enjoyable and informative tours, with varied and in-depth discussions on the automobile and its impact on society. Aside from the tour, we offer four different educational programs that range from kindergarten to high school and cover a variety of topics from early transportation to automotive design. Each tour offers hands on artifacts and real life observational tools. Visit the Larz Anderson Auto Museum for a day of exploration and fun that will create lasting memories for you and your group that is guaranteed to stay with you long after you leave.

What to do with 3 boys on a wet Saturday afternoon? Take them to the car museum! The boys (8, 10, 11), along with a 19 year old sister, were awed at the outside of the museum, formerly used as the carriage house at the estate known as Weld. The mansion was torn down years ago, so what it looked... More

We were looking for a automobile museum to please one of my sons and found this one! Just to go there is worth the ride! It is in a very chic neighborhood with Beautiful Old houses! The museum is also a Beautiful Old building that used to be a stable. We really enjoyed this place!

We were fortunate to be able to join a tour. The docent was very knowledgeable and passed along tidbits as well as answered questions. They are adding more about Mrs. Anderson so the cars will be even more interesting. We will be back on a day with a car show. Be sure to check out the museum website for special... More

This Auto museum has some attributes and vehicles I have not seen at previous ones I've visited but I won't spoil it by revealing what those vehicles entailed. Definitely, worth the trip! In addition it is surrounded by a beautiful green meadow that is used for tented events also near a wonderful view of Boston, and ice skating in the... More

Brings you to another time and place. It's the perfect place to spend some time, learn a few things, and just enjoy the wonderful exhibits. It's a hidden gem in Boston outside of they typical tourist attractions.

The Museum of Transportation in Brookline, MA is a "must visit" if you're a car fan. Situated on a lovely property, the Museum has well organized, informative exhibits that are very informative and appealing to people who know a lot about automotive history and those who know very little. The weekend lawn shows are well worth a visit -- check... More

I brought my kids to the Larz Anderson Museum because it was part of Free Fridays in Boston. We had always wanted to go but hadn't made it yet and figured a free day was a great day to check it out! Outside, they had food, a big tent with tables, and a guy making balloon animals. Inside, there was... More

Listen to the stories told by the docents. It will definitely add to the over all experience. These are great cars with great stories. It seems a little out of the way, but it is worth it.

We recently visited the museum and attendeda lawn event, which takes place most Sunday's during the summer. The one we attended was German Car Day. The museum had a display of Porsche 911 and BMWs inside. Outside there we a range of German cars, with their owners, including a pristine and quite amazing Mercedes 300SL, a car worth probably more... More
