Resting place for men with a cause

Another resting place for brave en fallen in battle. A place where the horrors of battle can be counted with each marker.

A beautiful, well-kept cemetery honoring the fallen soldiers of the Confederacy. It is sad to think that 2/3 of the graves here are unmarked so their families never knew what happened to their loved ones. So many lives lost on both sides.................

I love visiting these cemeteries that were created during a great conflict in our nations history. I think everyone should see one and I have seen many, this one did not disappoint.

We spent a warm morning walking though the cemetery. We find old cemeteries to be a spiritual experience. We were most impressed with the history and the people who are honored there in the well kept grounds. You must see this if you are in Fredericksburg.

The cemetery brings the reality of the local battles into perspective. The Second Rebellion cost this area in devastation and loss lives. Entire families lost their homes and loved ones. My great great grandfather fought with the 14th GA. Volunteers in company A. He survived the war and surrendered at Appomattox in April of 1865. His brother Thomas W. Williams... More

We visited the Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg on Memorial Day to see the pageantry and the reverence that the reenactors and citizens of this southern city bring on that day. It was wonderful. The marchers in Confederate uniforms and the ladies in their long skirts and parasols took us back in time. The graves are each marked with a stars... More

It was very interesting to see all the graves. The oldest one we found died in 1801. The confederate graves were old, unreadable and/or breaking apart. Looks like the caretakers are trying to repair and/or fix those.

On the trolley tour you will hear about the cemetery. At Memorial Day, the town puts a Confederate flag of each grave. (Flag is not meant as a symbol of hate but a part of the history of the area).
