You can get an introduction to the Big Ditch at the visitors center and the museum. Learning it's history is essential to understanding the city and the struggles it has faced in its survival. The ditch is nearly a canyon and you will probably see it if you spend any time in Silver City but take a few moments to... More

It cuts right through the middle of the city. Nice to walk around even when winter/snowy. It's fairly small so it makes for a nice stop if you're walking around the main street.

The park is near the visitors center and has a lot of information about its name on plaques you can read. Close to Historic downtown also.

This tree lined park and walkway goes through town just one half block east of the main street in Silver City. It follows a beautiful little creek. Great place for a rest or picnic.

This is a very nice place to walk from the Visitors Information Center to the older part of downtown. There are informative signs along the path. Nice walk over the bridge gives a great vantage point of the "Big Ditch",

To find the park, look for the Gateway Arch over W. Broadway at N. Hudson and the Silver City Visitor Center will be on the corner at that intersection (you'll see a log cabin). The Big Ditch runs behind the Visitor Center and under the bridge on Broadway (at the arch). We parked (free) at the Visitor Center and explored... More

Be sure to read the signage explaining how the Big Ditch was formed just over the Bridge to the Visior Center Parking Lot.

Visited after a huge rain storm. The path was enjoyable to walk along on the non-maintained side opposite the main drag. A little scary for the young kids, so we made sure to hold hands. It was very fun.

This is a wonder. The power of water, rushing through the middle of town carved this Big Ditch out. Then the good townspeople of Silver City were bold enough to turn it into a lovely oasis instead of filling it back in and inviting another disaster hosted by Mother Nature. Very nice walking area

If you like to relax in the morning, before the summer heat mounts, under trees overhanging a stream and with birds singing your day to life, well this is the place for you. The Big Ditch Park is an exquisite river walk with lots of benches and shade. The Ditch was once Main Street, which collapsed under severe floods at... More
