Shops and restaurants are constantly changing on state street. Each time I walk down, I find something new. It’s a pedestrian and public transportation only street which is really nice. There are festivals in the summer and connects the capital to the university.

If you come to Madison you have to walk State Street. Many fun spots to eat, culture, boutique stores and a great view on the capital. Easy and safe to get around.

This motor-free (except for buses) street is full of eclectic and interesting shops, most of them locally-owned and chain-free.

We took an uber to State St. on a Saturday night. There is always fun in this area! The bars are mostly full. There are some that aren't too full. When you're with a group of girls, we like the not so busy ones. We...More

Great people watching. Great food. Great bars. Great shopping. Great entertainment. A wide variety of all of the above. The food trucks down at Library Mall are delicious. The view of the Capitol is iconic. If you've never been to State Street, you definitely need...More

Best thing about it is that it's closed off to traffic. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of icky bars, so-so restaurants, and coffee shops. I suppose if it's your first time in Madison, it's worth a look, but I live here and almost never go...More

The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because it fills up with incredibly obnoxious drunks after 9pm. Always. I have been to State Street dozens of times and it never fails. I always make sure I am out of there after dinner!

About 15 to 20 minutes. Worth it. May find places to check in between? We liked eating outside at the terrace there.

yes, a lot of them do, except the fish, snakes, and other legless varieties. if you're asking if you see people walking animals (dogs, etc.) on state street, then yes, but on leashes (the animals that is).
