A little over priced but a cool experience to see the floats if you don't go for mardi gras. If you have an extra 45-60 minutes in your trip and are a student and the rate is cheaper and totally worth it.

I visited NoLa in a season without Mardi Gras, so this place helped me imagine how it is. They organize free transportation from Canal Street and back, but you can best call them so they know that you want to come. They show a nice video about Mardi Gras, key you taste King Cake, give you a tour with explanation.... More

Good tour. We took the free shuttle to this warehouse. The tour allows you to dress up and take pictures with some of the props. Followed by a video of the history of Mardi Gras and we were served some king cake. Then we got to take a walk around the warehouse to see the artists working on the props... More

It was a little cheesy but very informative. I didn't realize how little I knew about the history of Mardi Gras. It was also very cool to see how the floats are constructed.

Interesting and beautiful work. However, the huge place is the same temperature inside as out, so, I can't imagine going when it's hot.

Now i know the work that goes into Mardi Gras floats, and it is a lot. This works is so vast and so colourful it is excellent. The building is so big, so it can hold all the floats in various states of completion, most of which when i went were complete. Definately a place to visit.

A great insight into the history and meaning of Maris Gras along with a behind the scenes tour of the workshops in which the stunningly beautiful floats are built!

Staying in Garden District

Neighbourhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
