I've been to zoos all over the country including what people call the best - Washington, San Diego, Cincinnati, - and this is by far the best. Part of its charm is the way the exhibits blend in with the natural surroundings and it's right on the Mississippi River.

Fun, manageable size and easy to navigate with kids. The local ecology is explored in the Louisiana Swamp exhibit which is pretty cool and something I haven't seen in any other zoo.

The animals appear to be well taken care of in this small environment. More progression is needed; the elephants need to go to a sanctuary where they can be be properly cared for; they do not have what they need here.

This zoo is average at best. Some activities for small children, but it pales in comparison with most major city zoos.

Very pretty zoo that was well thought out. Undergoing construction while we were there, which was not a problem, but probably making it even better! Had fun and unique animals. Closes early on week day.

This Zoo was disappointing. I was persuaded to visit when I read it was one of the top 5 zoos in the US. I can't imagine how it earned that rating. It's an okay, well-organized zoo. I give it 4 stars for effort and a collection of some rare animals. With the exception of the elephants, the animals appear to... More

You have to take your children as well as yourself to the zoo. Great opportunity to teach your children about the wonderful world we live in

Audubon zoo has made a lot of improvements over the years, like adding 2 splash parks and ropes course and other play areas. (ropes course is extra $$.) Be prepared to walk, and for heat. The good news is, there's beer to be had at several stops in the zoo. My favorite place to eat is in the Swamp exhibit... More

Audubon Zoo is a very nice zoo set amidst a beautiful park surrounded by an historic New Orleans neighborhood. The zoo is easily reachable by streetcar and there is a complimentary shuttle to and from the St. Charles street stop. The zoo itself is smaller than some, but spacious and well laid out. The design allows movement without feeling crowded... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
