This "park" is a great photo op in between Jackson Square and the River. Since it's elevated, you have both a cool view looking towards Saint Louis Cathedral as well as a view the other way looking out at the water. There isn't much to do in this spot, but the benches are nice to take a rest and do... More

Washington Artillery Park is across the street from Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral. The view is amazing and great to capture the architecture and scenery surrounding the Cathedral and Jackson Square. If you walk over the steps and past the monument you can walk down to the Mississippi river. There are wooded steps going down into the river... More

This is an urban “park” overlooking the park and cathedra on one side and the water on the other. There is a large cannon “protecting” the water approach and plaques highlighting local history. It leads to a walkway/park area that follows the waterfront. Nice place to walk a pet, sit and relax and enjoy the views.

Washington Artillery Park is located directly across from Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral. It is also right on the Mississippi and offers many photo ops. It is a nice historic monument and provides culture of the NO area.

We came across this monument to the military of Louisiana on our walk to Cafe du Monde. Great to visit if you are already in the French Quarter, but I would not make a special trip.

This park is right across the street from Jackson Square. Dragon Master Showcase performs there on the steps facing Jackson Square. This is a must see show! You can walk through the park and see the river. Very nice view!

This is a small elevated park between Jackson Square and the river. It has a cannon there, thus the "artillery" in the name. This is a short stop but since it is elevated it's a nice place to get views and potentially pictures of the river over the levee and of Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral.

Make sure to walk up the stairs, face the river & have someone take a picture with the Cathedral in the background. Incredible view of the bend in the River.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
