Neighbourhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

A must do when visiting New Orleans
You can only enter the cemetery by a tour which I can highly recommend. In the middle of summer I would suggest an early tour as it is extremely hot inside. There is a small amount of shade and some misters but it is still very hot. We had Will as our guide who was fabulous with his stories and history and was very gracious with all our questions. You have to meet at Basin Street Station and I would recommend booking in advance.

    Dark Tourism at it’s best!!!
Witchcraft, Voodoo and magic combined with a healthy history of New Orleans. The cemetery is a must and is not to be missed when you are visiting New Orleans. Book early to avoid the masses of crowds/tours that are waiting for their scheduled entry in the information centre. Our tour guide Denise was very informative throughout the tour and kept us entertained.

    Will and Alaina were awesome!
The whole experience was great! Alaina helped us out purchasing tickets and letting us know what to expect. Will was a wonderful guide and tried to keep us all cool by finding shade and maneuvering expertly. He was entertaining and gave us lots of local recommendations as well!

    Highly informative must do tour
Great tour and learning experience. Would recommend it to anyone fascinated with history. Our tour guide Ron was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and was full of information about each area and tomb we were shown. The guy definitely enjoys his job which is a fresh of breath air nowadays. We learned alot and we’d take the tour again to see the incredible, rich history this cemetery contains.

    Book It!
This tour was great! Im usually not a fan of guided tours, this one was actually great! Ron was very informative and provided a lot of details and backstories about the graves, the cemetery, the burial process, and the interred. There were tents, misters, and fans to help with the August heat. You are now REQUIRED to go on a guided tour due to damage to graves. You cannot enter the cemetery without a guide.

    Had a great time!
Loved our tour and LOVED our tour guide Zelda! She was so informative, fun and friendly. She was great at relaying facts about some of the famous tombs and showing different elements of them. As well as sharing some New Orleans history.

Ron gave us a tour of the St Louis Cemetery No. 1. He was very knowledgeable of the history of the Cemetery, and of New Orleans in general. He also showed compassion and respect towards the "residents."

Our guide Wil was knowledgeable and thorough. He showed us the key sites in the cemetery. A couple statements about the Catholic Church were not accurate but the tour was very interesting. I wish we were able to wonder the cemetery at random. The front desk girls were great and provide valuable information.

A most extraordinary and unexpected experience.
We learned about the cemetery and your upon arriving in New Orleans. We were somehow able to get a tour when someone canceled. The tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Zelda was our guide. She took the time to share history from not only the cemetery but New Orleans as well. I highly recommend you take this tour and ask for Zelda!

Buy ticket in building next to cemetery across the road. Its timed tours, might be better to book in advance if possible, but we bought on the day and we had to wait only an hour for the next tour to start (this was in February). Can wait in the building and have a drink at the coffee bar to kill time. Guided tour of cemetery was interesting, definitely worth the visit, short walk from French Quarter.

Had a great time touring the Cemetery with Zelda! She was informative, knowledgeable and very entertaining! Shared some personal stories too. She made the tour very enjoyable despite the occasional down pour and lightening strikes!

I didn’t actually get to go on this tour—it was canceled due to thunder, lightning, and heavy rain. However, I am still giving 5 stars because of how kind and amazing all the guides were. They waited 20 extra minutes past the tour time to see if the rain stopped, they gave everyone the opportunity to reschedule, if you couldn’t reschedule they gave a refund, and they were truly apologetic about the cancellation. One guide even offered to tell me anything I wanted to know about the cemetery even though he was off the clock. They definitely made the right call to cancel, and I commend them for their kindness and their willingness to put safety above profits. I hope to visit New Orleans again one day so I can do this tour!

I'm sure there is a lot of interesting information on this cemetery that could be conveyed on the tour, but it was lost in a disjointed mishmash of other stuff our guide was talking about. $25 is probably too much.

Zelda was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable and humorous. She made the tour enjoyable and interesting. When we first got there the electricity was out and Barbara was very kind in offering cups of ice to everyone.

Been here before, when people behaved and it was free to enter, without a tour guide too. That's all changed now, can only access the Cemetery with an official tour and you must stay with the guide. Not usually a fan of group walkabouts but my wife had never been here before. The tour operator is located in the old Railway Station just east of the cemetery, although you're best to get your tickets online first as the tours do get full.

The tour guide was good with lots of information and it went by quickly. The highlight though as always is Marie Laveau's crypt. Although now there is no longer people there seeking some sort of intervention or miracle. They had some good info that I hadn't heard before.

It's still a must do when in New Orleans
