My favorite NOLA neighborhood

Adjacent to the French Quarter, nice walkable neighborhood with bewitching architecture, lively music, and cozy restaurants.

We enjoyed staying in a home in the Maigny. It was easy to get around by Uber and our house was gorgeous and comfortable.

Have spent too much time in the French Quarter and not wandered too far away, what a mistake. This is so close but is absolutely wonderful, a vibrant neighbourhood with history and char, lovely old homes but so different to the Quarter.

Faubourg (suburb) Maringy (designed and sold by Bernard de Maringy) was the home to free people of color in the 1800s, has seen good times and bad, and is now the new "in" place for Jazz and dining. Architecture of shotgun houses as well as French and Spanish influence. Well worth a guided or self guided tour is you've seen... More

It's a nice walk on the north side of the Quarter. it is being transformed a little more, but there are lots of older run down buildings as well.

If anyone loves quaint neighborhoods characterized by brightly colored Creole cottages and townhouse beautifully landscaped and surrounded by quaint cafes and bakeries and fabulous old churches, the Faubourg Marigny of New Orleans will hit you with 'the fever" of never wanting to leave; of wanting to buy a property here, to live and to die here. I LOVE IT!

If you want to see some of the older homes of New Orleans, this is a must see area. Lots to see, many different styles, and away from the French Quarter bustle

If you want to stay in the French Quarter area but also want to avoid the mess that is the Quarter, head a little east to the Marigny. Similar feel and style, but a very enjoyable experience!

I had never been here until invited to watch the Chewbacchus Krewe go through. It was a marvelous place, nice houses and atmosphere. The parking is a little challenging. Pleasant crowd. We had dinner at the Praline Connection which was great. I will definitely seek this neighborhood out on my next visit.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
