Just happened upon Crescent City Cooks when wandering French Quarter our 1st afternoon. What a find. Enjoyed an amazing demonstration class for lunch. And we could bring our own wine. Great value, learned some history of the city through their food. Highly recommend. One things we would do again if we are back in NOLA.

I like to take cooking classes when I travel, so I can bring home something I can use, rather than just "stuff." So I booked a hands-on class at Crescent City Cooks. I highly recommend taking a class here. I was solo, so I got my own cooking station. Others who were in groups were split into groups of two.... More

My friend and I attended the afternoon class and learned how to cook jambalaya, creole shrimp and bred pudding. Lynn was very good at teaching us the dishes. She was very organized and pointed out details about how to make our dish. The food we cooked was delicious and I can't wait to make it again!

We attended the morning session that made Jambalaya, chicken & andouille gumbo, bread pudding and pralines. The chef Shava was very personable, and the food was very yummy! It was a great experience to learn about New Orleans cooking.

A must stop for us each visit. Have attended 2 cooking demonstrations, both worth while for the good company and entertainment as well as learning some nice dishes. We use the jambalaya recipe all the time. We enjoy browsing the kitchen ware and other kitchen related things that are well presented. Kudos to the owner for moving from the Riverside... More

I lucked out with just three in the class. Lots of helpful tips from the instructors and enough food to feed at least double our group! I learned a lot especially "be patient when testing spices!"

We made Crescent City Cooks our last experience while we were in New Orleans and it was one of the best! Recipes were handed out to all and our cook Scott walked us through the preparation of a delicious brunch. Step by step we learned how to prepare Creole' red bean cakes, sauces, shrimp, grits, poached eggs and bananas foster.... More

Great fun, clearly-written recipes that I will be able to do at home! Finally learned how to cook a roux! The gumbo and jambalaya were outstanding, and the bread pudding was divine! What a great morning in New Orleans!! Spent way too much in the unique and charming gift shop- oh well!!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
