On a sunny spring afternoon

The azaleas were in bloom, the breeze was cool, the sun was warm. A perfect time on a weekday to enjoy this beautiful garden without too much crowd.

I am an art ignoramus. I don't know any of the finer points of art appreciation (or even the more obvious ones). My critique of most works of art is either "That's sort of ugly" or "That looks kind of nice." You would think that the Sculpture Garden would be wasted on me, but my wife and I were early... More

We rented bikes and were riding around city park and audubon park (which aren't any different than our parks at home), then we found the sculpture garden, which is the best I"ve seen. A really terrific curation of sculptures.

City Park is an absolute treasure, and the sculpture garden is a gem in its crown. There are all kinds of sculptures in this amazing -free! - attraction. Take time to enjoy them all.

While driving through City Park we parked along an area we thought would be nice to walk around for awhile and get some exercise. After taking a short walk along a path, we stumbled across this area. We are not big into art but really enjoyed strolling through. The setting was so relaxing with plenty of places to sit and... More

Take the Canal Street Streetcar to the City Park. Skip the $12 admission to the Museum (save your money for the awesome food in NOLA) and wander through the sculpture garden. Beautifully staged with many benches throughout. You can also download the free app to read about each piece. Well worth the time! Not for someone who gets tired easily... More

If you are into, even if you are not, sculpture and art you will love walking through this large sculpture garden. It is free, be sure and stop by the window and ask for a map, if coming through the main entrance. There is a second entrance over by the beignet cafe. Good for strolling the baby through or just... Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
