Little side passage led us to the Bevelo Lighting Museum. Charming and our hosts were so friendly and willing to share about the business. This is one of those places that "if walls could talk". Make sure to ask about the work bench and its origin!

We stopped in here a couple years ago by accident and were amazed by the history of this company. They now have a "museum," with photos, and a history of gas lights in the country. A craftsman is also available to talk about Bevolo, and the work this company does. Very interesting stop with a look at some little-known Nola... More

Spotted this very cool "real" workshop and display room while walking along Royal Street in the French Quarter. Jeb and Nate never stopped crafting the beautiful gas lamps but answered every question we asked. What a treat! I'm thrilled that we stumbled upon this unique and authentic workshop.

While visiting New Orleans, we stopped in the Bevolo Gas & Electric Light shop. It was interesting looking at all the lights and how they're made. If you're curious or into the antique glass lights, make sure to stop by for a visit and a little education.

We kind of stumbled upon this palce! Passed it by the first round! I'm glad we stopped in! They manufacture gas & electric lights, producing each and every piece locally by hand. It began in the French Quarter in 1945 - they are on their 3rd generation. Their work is outstanding, the quality is beyond what you'd expect. Head to... More

We stumbled on this place and it was fascinating to watch the craftsmen making replicas of the gas lights that are everywhere in New Orleans. It's great to see the reverence for the past and that true craftsmanship is still alive and doing well. They love to answer questions and you can stay as long as you like.

You'll see beautiful gaslights many places in New Orleans. Bevelo is the place to see them made and get some for your own home. A beautiful showroom of fixtures in many styles opens up to a small courtyard and a workshop, where you can sit on a pew and watch a couple of artisans at work. They seemed pleased to... More

We stopped in to spend a few moments watching the metal smiths (sorry if I'm not correctly titling them ) build these extremely well built and ornate lanterns. It was so impressive to see the lost art of hard work and care being put into building something. These pieces are truly lovely! Take a moment to stop in!

Happened in here while our teen daughter and her bff were on a Segway tour. The staff are exceptionally informative and kind. We received a fun and interesting history lesson. Such an unexpected gem!

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
