This place and it's 3 sisters, in the Garden District, Igor's, Lucky's and Buddha Belly are long established 'salt of the earth' New Orleans style "French Quarter" stalwarts. Classically embodied with yesteryear "Nawlins" charm, albeit in a modern theme, classic "New Orleans" drinks, pool tables, laundromat facilities and cheap quality eats, provide 24 hour, all day/night entertainment for the weariest... Not a place that looks particularly good, but we had a great time here. Service and beers were good, and Lips and the Trips were playing. Lips is a great singer, the drummer is also very good, but the guitar player, Mark Fowler, is exceptional. Some of the best guitar playing I have heard in ages.

Great for people-watching, this strategically-located bar and grill serves typical adult beverages and pub grub, along with live music mostly of rock and blues genres. The crowd varies from grungy locals to conservative tourists, and everyone gets along. The bathrooms are the major downside.

we always poke our head into this place on our way to and from Frenchmen Street. There is usually a great band playing (usually rock or blues). The beer flows freely and you can do your laundry. Don't expect anything fancy. It's a nuts and bolts bar. What could be better? We will continue to go to Checkpoint charlies, for... More

Holy moley! This place was fantastic! We came in to live music with no cover. My lovely wife and I found 2 seats at the bar over by the grill. While we waited for the bartender to make his way over to us, a Cockroach the size of my thumb (I named him Joe Cocker) came to say hello. He... More

I love this place. It's dirty and grimy and has some great Blues acts pouring their heart out. The drinks are strong and cheap. The food is cheap. But, really, discovering some raw, blistering blues makes me love this place each time we come. You can also do your laundry in the back.

This is not a club that looks like everything else in Frenchmen St. but don't let that scare you away. It has some fantastic bands playing there. There is usually two bands - go for the second, which often is the best one. The style is not traditional NOLA music, but often rockabilly and classic rockmusic. Don't go on monday... More

Spent 4 days in Nola and went to this bar every single day. Staff is amazing. Drinks are cheap. Perfect mix of locals and tourist ie hardly any tourist even though it's very central. It's just one of those bars were you feel at home the moment you walk in and never want to leave again. Checkpoint Charlie's I miss... More
