Coming to NOLA is about absorbing the culture and history. If you do not come here, you are missing a critical piece. We had hoped to do it with one of the bike tours with a guide but it was just too cold and windy....More

We visited my fiancee's brother and sister-in-law over Thanksgiving who have lived in New Orleans since 2000. He took us on a tour of things you wouldn't know/see if you were casually visiting. As a relief worker in the area following Katrina, he insisted on...More

We drove down Tennessee St to see some of houses built by Brad Pitt’s Make it Right foundation, plus the levee on the adjoining street. It’s certainly not a must see, but it was moving to see the problems still faced by the neighbourhood. And...More

Try not to take a tour of this place, with any company. It's BAD FORM. It is a residential area that was seriously hit by Hurricane Katrina. The locals don't like tourists... just don't travel there if you even want to. Even IF your thinking...More

We were able to see the 9th ward on our tour of NOLA with Cajun Encounters. It’s both moving to see how many the community worked together to rebuild but also devastating. It’s sad to see the homes that still need rebuilt 12 years later....More

All of the culture and charm was forever changed with Katrina. Many structures remain abandoned. Some have been repaired but the culture of the place has been replace with poverty and despair. So depressing when one reflects on what was once here in the neighborhoods....More

Do visit for a bit, as area is outside of the normal tourism with quaint local spots. I enjoy visiting the thrift stores, it's like treasure hunting.

When I planned 8 days in NOLA friends said it was crazy. "You only need a few days in the French Quarter" they said. Turns out they were right. One day on Bourbon Street was plenty. But it's the REAL New Orleans you'll miss if...More

I wanted to see where Katrina had devastated the lower 9th ward and see the homes Brad Pitt had built. They look very out of place with the other homes there. There are still some homes that have been left untouched, which was very sad....More

We rented bikes from "A Bicycle Named Desire" which I highly recommend if you are looking for a cheap way to see the ninth ward. $20/4 hours. It's a little nerve wracking crossing the bridge over the canal but otherwise easy ride. It is rather...More

People focus too much on the hardships so closely
