Jewel Cave National Monument is home to one of the longest caves in the world. Offering an assortment of cave formations and recreational opportunities, many visitors are truly amazed by this underground wilderness. Most impressive is the fact that exploration and discovery continue to take place at this significant natural resource. As part of the National Park Service, the Monument offers four different types of cave experiences: Scenic Tour (1 hour and 20 minutes), Discovery Talk (20 minutes) Historic Lantern Tour (1 hour and 45 minutes), and Wild Caving Tour (3 to 4 hours). NOTE: Reservations are available up to 90 days in advance and can be made online or through the Call Center of Black Hills Central Reservations. Tickets can also be purchased at the Monument on a first come first served basis. Please be advised that during the late spring, summer, and fall seasons, tour times often sell out by late morning.

This is well worth your time. Tickets sell out quickly for the main tours so get there early. We showed up around 10:00 and got the very last 4 tickets for the entire day.

Tried to visit this place on the first day. Couldn’t get in. They said all tours are full. Reserved a spot several days later. Good experience to wait for! Learned a lot from our guide.

It was a very nice place to spend a hot day. With a 13 year old daughter she had a blast and was very entertaining. Make sure to get there early to get tickets for the tours and bring a sweatshirt no matter the weather.

Before I share: Understand that the Scenic Tour is an "active person" tour = lots of stairs, no places to sit, and constantly moving along. There were several older people (65+) who were still good on their feet, however, by the middle of the tour...More

My daughter, grand daughter (11 years old) and I took the short cave tour. Looking up at the dome of the place I was reminded of St, Peter's in Rome. The rangers have a brief talk and then answered questions and let us just absorb...More

You go down 155 steps to explore the Wind caves Ntl monument. We took the moderate tour which is 1 1/2hours long and led by a Park Ranger. Very interesting and educational. I recommend this tour
