Jewel Cave National Monument is home to one of the longest caves in the world. Offering an assortment of cave formations and recreational opportunities, many visitors are truly amazed by this underground wilderness. Most impressive is the fact that exploration and discovery continue to take place at this significant natural resource. As part of the National Park Service, the Monument offers four different types of cave experiences: Scenic Tour (1 hour and 20 minutes), Discovery Talk (20 minutes) Historic Lantern Tour (1 hour and 45 minutes), and Wild Caving Tour (3 to 4 hours). During the late winter and early spring seasons, limited tour options are available. It is recommended that visitors check online for specific tour times or call the visitor center directly for park ranger assistance. NOTE: At present, advanced reservations for cave tour tickets are not available in 2017. It is hoped that this service will be available by Memorial Day Weekend; however, until further notice, all cave tour tickets are being sold on a first come first serve basis.

The cave itself is great, the discovery tour is not really worth it, you only see one room of the cave. You would be better off with a longer tour. Get your tickets early or they sell out.More

The wild caving tour was a marvelous experience where we spent five solid hours clambering and crawling through very tight spaces, over big drops, and on slippery ground. We arrived at the Jewel Cave around 12 and began crawling up and under and through tunnels...More

We really enjoyed this cave. While I won't say that it's the most spectacular cave I've been in, it was fun and interesting to walk through it. The Scenic tour is what I'd recommend. There are a lot of stairs, but our 5 year-old was...More

We will be in South Dakota for several days May11-15, 2017. Since there is no advanced ticket purchase, is it advisable to get tickets in the AM then visit Devils Tower and return for an afternoon tour. What is the latest afternoon scenic tour?

Devils tower is a little far. I would suggest visiting The Mammoth Site which is nearby and in an interesting historical town.

We are planning on going to Jewel Cave on July 9th, 2017. We are staying in Rapid City on the 8th and Casper on the 9th. We have one day to explore the Black Hill area - Mount Rushmore (first thing that morning), then 1880 Train, and lastly Jewel Cave that afternoon. My daughter did a long report on Jewel Cave for school. We would hate to miss the cave. When do you think your reservation system will be up and running?
