One of Austria's top 3 destinations amidst the Alps The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is like an ornament of ribbons located between green mountain pastures, colourful flower meadows, rocky rubble, ice and show. It nestles up against hills, follows the course of the natural ground and fits the mountains like a glove. Whooshing waterfalls, the shrill whistling of marmots and the howling wind in the summit regions create an unforgettable high alpine soundscape. And then, all of a sudden, he appears: his majesty, the Grossglockner, the black mountain. Join us for a journey beyond compare up high to the perpetual ice of the glacier!

This was our second visit to this majestic road. Most about the road i have written in my first review. In this visit we spent most of our time at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe and took the funicular to get close to the Pastereze Glacier. If you are...More

My wife and I drove our rented car up the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, or Alpine High Road in English. We had a clear day, and about in 40's and no wind. Absolutely wonderful ride, excellent road. There is a toll/fee which is about 40 dollars USD,...More

The Grossglockner is worth every cent of 35 euros entrance fee. The alpine scenery is just breathtaking. The road is well maintained and there are plenty of spots to stop and take in the views. Also a couple of restaurants and souvenir shops.Highly recommended.

An incredible driving experience. Despite the 35euro(back in 2010 it was 28) access tax that may be a bit high for some of us, it's worth every cent. Visit the Keiser Franz Joseph Heights and lookout for marmots that might drop by just to say...More

It is far better to drive yourself, so definitely take your own car or rent one for the day. The entrance fee is about 35 Euros per car for a one day pass and you can return the same day from the other side without paying an... More

There may be a tour bus, but cannot image that there is public transport. We strongly advise that you rent a car in Salzburg, then you can really enjoy the mountain roads.
