Seeing the Dam was an amazing experience - Our kids enjoyed walking out on the dam wall and looking down

Recommended only if you are willing to hike to destinations a little further away. Around an hour's hike, the area tends to be overused and offers little recreational value. Unfortunately, far too many individual vehicles block the undoubtedly beautiful surroundings. Profit (income from parking fees) takes precedence over recreational value or the richness of the natural experience.

Went here by car. The trip going here from Mayrhofen is already very beautiful. The last piece of the road you need to pay toll (€14). Once you are there, you can easily park your car and walk around. There are also some hiking trials starting there. There are toilets and there is a small restaurant (not open on bad weather days). Also some other huts in hiking distance.

Just go there :) Fab winding drive to it. This is a toll road. Be sure to have time for a walk around. Walking on the dam is great, but not if fearful of heights !!!

Worth the narrow roads up to see this beautiful dam - wrap up warm as can be very cold and windy. Take an automatic picture for fun

The Aktiv Card takes passengers as far a Ginzling, then an additional toll of 1.70 Euros is payable for the Mautstrasse the toll road which passes along a breathtaking narrow gorge, through tunnels and up through hairpin bends to the lake. The dam is awesome and the lakes is surrounded by mountains, glaciers and waterfalls. A stroll up the Zamsergrund is pleasant and not too strenuous.

On a cloudy rainy day we decided to visit this beautiful lake. Truth be told it's gorgeous. We stood on the dam in the rain for a while until most of the fog lifted and it was stunning. Be aware that in bad weather there are no activities there.

Drove up to the reservoir lake from Mayrhofen. Took about 40 minutes as we were held at the toll point. The road section from that point is single track so road alternates, up and down. Toll was €12.50 but worth it as the drive is great and the reservoir well worth seeing. Mountain views are superb.

We drove to Schlegeis Stausee from Innsbruck. The way to the destination is very scenic. We have to stop at a traffic light and pay a toll. The toll road is one directional and we have to wait for our turn. As we drive towards the lake, we can slowly see the high wall of the arch dam. We have to drive through an unlined tunnel. The lake is blue in colour and it is fantastically beautiful with the mountains at the backdrop and the arch dam on the left side. We can take a stroll beside the lake to enjoy the beauty of the lake at different angles. There are benches along the way for you to relax and slowly mesmerize yourself into this natural beauty. This is a dead end road and we have to reverse to leave this place. There is Via Ferrata activity on the dam and it is claimed to be the highest Ferrata on dam in the world. We can also walk on the arch dam. There are restaurants and we can have a nice view of the lake while having our food. The food here surprisingly is not that expensive. This place is definitely beautiful and we should try our best to drop by.
