I have travelled on so many cable cars in my life but I genuinely felt slightly uneasy on this one, it was so far off the ground and coming down when it suddenly drops off the cliff. So if you don't have a head for heights, don't ride this cable car.

Top of the mountain in summer there is a small kids playground. There was an excellent restaurant with live music. You can also walk the short distance over towards the top of finkelbahn, the views are worth it.

Good extensive ski area well serviced by an excellent lift system.
Lots of snow cannons to make sure that the snow is well groomed.
Not a great resort for off-piste but some excellent on piste with good links to surrounding areas.

In my opinion the best views in the whole valley are here. Select either the penk or
Finkenberg lift (FB) go to the top station then walk to the other top station, this is pram friendly, nearly flat, with views of the beautiful Tux Valley throughout.

Explore the lake area around the FB top station (kids area looks really good here) plus if you like to climb, the FB 420m climb to wanglspitze is lovely (path 57). One day we climbed from the village of vorderlanersbach to the FB mid station which was lovely (path 55/57 family friendly nature walk) and got the lift down.

Apple strudle at the FB mid station was lovely, my husband loves the dark beer there also.

Biggest complaint is they sell a 10 lift pass but don't have one booklet that covers all 10 lifts. Some leaflets cover 3 lifts, others only 1. Tourist info would provide a better service and save paper if they wrote 3 guide booklets, each covering all 10 lifts, 1st for the kids facilities, 2nd with walks less than 2 hours long, 3rd with 2+ hour walks.

So here is my mini guide If you like walking, do eggalmbahn also, lovely easy climb to grubelspitze, grassy descent and flat path (full of wild flowers in June) to station (routes 35,37,33) very popular so go early.

It was cloudy both our vists to the Gerlos valley but both climbs were good and easy (konigsleiten route 60, climb up isskogelbahn). konigsleiten top station path 62 descent was ok as interesting woods and streams.

Only the 1st hintertux lift is part of the lift pass, path 327 is steep and narrow so we didn't get to the very top (but enjoyed the bit we did), later we very much enjoyed the descent on 324 past the waterfalls.

Zell rosenalm path 10 climb to karspitze was great but wished we double backed from the top as the rest of the walk was poor.

Too hot when we did the ahorn lift so walked towards edelhutte but turned round once flat path got steep (was a lovely walk but the shady sunbeds and paddling lake by the lift were lovely instead - take a towel!)

Bus and trains are reliable, but they skipped one service at mid day, so if it runs every 30mins, at lunchtime it's a 60min wait. Displays list each stop/times so easy to know when to get off/it will arrive. Some train stations are minor so you have to press a platform button to request it stops (or button in the train to get off). We took rides along the valley after our daily lift pass was used. Essential is get the bus timetable from tourist info, main buses are 4104= tux valley every 30 mins, 4094=zell & Gerlos Valley max 1 an hour. Train handy for Zell and non lift villages =every 30 mins.

One of the best-operated cablecar systems that have been to during many years of skiing in different countries. In 10 minutes you are up from town level ( of about 650 meters) to the skiing area without interruptions. The view during the descent is breathtaking of the valley, town and surrounding mountains.

Here at 09/01/2022 I bought 59.5 euro ticket in Mayrhofen (Penkenbahn) with plans to ski in "Hintertuxer Gletscher", but when come to it they said that my ticket is not valid and i need buy other one (+ 59.5 euro).
On their site, big lightbox near cashdesk, different printed material (=everywhere) there are "Hintertuxer Gletscher" in the left-up cornet so everyone could understand this is included, but in reallity NO and they do false advertising.
Finally they at cashdesk i was refused of moneyback, turning this case to the chargeback complaint for my bank.

Went up with the gondola and walked all the way downwards. On top of the mountain there was not too much going on due to covid and almost no restaurants open. Other mountains like in Stubaital has some more vibe and things to do on the top. Shortly checked the paragliders going down. Then went down via route 2. Medium difficult route (approx 3 hours), very beautiful.

Brilliant lift system even when it’s busy it moves quickly. There’s a one way system at the end of day which I think works well.

Penkenbahn and its surroundings are great for skiing and planning a day-trip e.g. to Eggalm and back.

The 35 person cabins reduce lift queues quickly and the ride up/down is only 10 minutes: If you are a non skier the cost is quite steep at around £20
