There is a very rough road to this park, through the lava fields. There was one vehicle requiring repair at the entrance to the park, but we continued onward. How surprised we were to see all the vehicles parked when we got there. It is...More

Real rough road over the lava flows to this Park but worth the drive. The restroom facilities could use some work and a regular cleaning. Lots of parking when we were there at about 5:30 p.m. Beautiful area.

I have been reading the other reviews and people seem to mistake this beach for others. I had to look it up too as Kona Coast is the English label where you will see it on maps as Kekaha Kai. This is not the beach...More

The few beheads heading to north point had the best beaches for family swimming. Shallow water, few rocks, life guards, picnic areas with grills.

I don't want to encourage visitors to come to this beach, because I want it all to myself...beautiful beach, amazing water, great breezes...plenty of shade under palm trees if you are nursing a sun burn too...the drive is tedious on a very rough lava field...More

Kona Coast State Park is a long drive off of Mamalahoa Hwy to the beach but it is worth the effort. Lava and sand mix to create a shoreline of interest and beauty. Sometimes you will see turtles basking in the sun or swimming in...More

This park actually has three very different beaches. Which accounts for some if the variance in the reports. The 1st beach has a parking lot, facilities, course sand and tide pools and waves to watch. The 2nd beach is a 200 yard walk to the...More

Very rough road - but a regular vehicle can make it. It was worth the trip when we saw the ocean! Magnificent view!

Uncrowded in January. The beach is at the site of the old Kona airport so there is LOTS of parking on what used to be the runway. VERY little shade but there are a couple of cabanas. The water is beautiful and warm and the...More
