Easy hike from parking lot to vast beach area. Take water and sunscreen for personal use. May be a good idea to have shoes for part of the walk and then slippers are fine.

First and foremost, let me say that I have been to many beaches in Hawaii. I have lost count regarding how many times I have visited the islands and this beach left me wondering if it gets any better than this. This beach is somewhat...More

It is not a nude beach but it is a very uncrowded one. It is difficult to access. The access road off the Queen-K Route 19 is a proving ground for tanks. It takes at least fifteen minutes to get to the first parking lot...More

This is a lovely sugar sand beach with two natural fresh water ponds, convenient for rinsing the salt water off after snorkeling. The beach is so peaceful and relaxing once you are there - it just takes a little work to get there. We parked...More

My other half talked me into a rough ride into the State park and then about a one mile hike! So worth the hike! This was a beautiful get away from the crowds and the beaten path! You can opt out of the park and...More

Take the dirt road between Miles 90 and 91. It's rough, but a two wheel drive car with sufficient clearance will do. At the end of the road, take the trail to the right. After 10 minutes of walking, there is a trail to the...More

We wanted to explore beaches on Hawaii, so we turned on this road off the highway to see it. BIG MISTAKE ! This was the worst road I have ever been on. I was afraid we were going to break the axle on the rental...More

While visiting the big island of Hawaii our family visited Makalawena/Pu'u Ali'i beach to swim and snorkel. After a slow trip down the dirt road (north of the Kona airport) we parked in a dirt lot. There is a trail before the lot that is...More

Nice beach, not as rocky as some, but not as free of rocks as, say Hapuna Beach. Benefits are that it is not nearly as crowded and there is shade from trees. If you walk about 20 minutes past the main beach, you can find...More
