Nice cruise to get to the Fort du Taureau with a lot of history hidden behind it, the tour guide did a pretty good resume of it's history but had no idea what the German did there during WWII - luckily I met a local specialist later on confirming my idea of the importance to stay there one night for... This is great family trip, as it involves visiting an island prison. It has the added bonus for the British visitors that the fortress was originally built to fend off the English invaders! There is an Audioguide available in English, which gives you more background to the history and the various uses to which the Chateau has been adapted over... More

Great day out. Worth a visit. Make sure to ask if the tour guide speaks English.... Kids loved the history.

Our visit wan's helped by bad weather. Nice attempt to liven it up for kids but putting giant games in some of the cells but once you've been seen one of them, and wandered around there's not a lot to do. Boat trip there was fun with an interesting commentary (in French) about the Bay of Morlaix.

I have now visited the Chateau three times with friends and family. This is a Vauban fortress built on a rock in the Bay of Morlaix. It has a chequered past, having been used variously for the military, a prison, a residence in the 1930s and latterly till 1980, a sailing school! Boats leave from Carantec between Morlaix and Roscoff,... More

This a a good way to spend a few hours. Need to check when the daily trip is made as it depends on the tides. nice views of the bay from the boat and from the Fort. History is explained on the panels throughout the site in english and french. there is a commentary on the boat and introduction talk... More

In June 2014 we took a boat to Château du Taureau, an island fortress while we were staying in Brittany. It is certainly a surprising place situated in the Baie de Morlaix. It has had many different uses in its history, from defending the coast from marauding English attackers, to imprisoning some of the first French Revolutionaries, and was occupied... More

The boat trip from Carantec beach is a must if you are spending a few days in the area. We were fortunate enough to do this visit on a sunny day, and saw some amazing scenery in the Baie de Morlaix (which is beautiful), learning about pirates and influences on Hergé for Tintin, and lots more. The Introduction and historical... More

Superb castle to visit, great for kids (any age suitable). If you could attend one, choose a theatrical visit, it is much more interesting then the others

After a forty minute boat trip from Le Diben (port of Plougasnou) we reached this wonderful fortress. It looks like a scaled down version of Fort Boyard. The guide gave us a very clear picture of the history of fortress and then we were free to roam. You can easily imagine what life would have been like for a prisoner... More
